I dunno, I think anyone who manages to make it to the title of “fanboy” for anyone is pretty much in the same boat as all the others, if only because I tend to associate “fanboy” with the immaturity the word promises.
Wes Anderson tied with Tarantino
RIchard Kelly. Without question.
“A fanboy is someone who thinks the director can do no wrong. Who, when presented with the faults in their favourite directors films ignores them or denies they exist.”
worst hardcore fanboys:
George Lucas by far. But honestly, I don’t know what types of runins you guys have had but I haven’t met any Tarentino fanboys that I’ve really had a problem with. Granted, there are a ton of dumbasses I’ve met who reference Tarentino as one of their favorites, partially because they think it gives them cool points or something but I think many Bergman followers are just as bad. I can’t tell you how many Bergman fanatics would talk to me as if I was beneath them when we discussed film, as if “A Clockwork Orange” could never be as good as Bergman’s films. I’ve had one mentioned about how “literary” Bergman’s films are and how that makes them better than others. I’m a big fan of Bergman but come on, don’t get pretentious about it.
The artsy/foreign/obscure director fanboys that think their shit dont stink are the worst kind of fanboys.
^ I agree with that comment.
Ok so to be a fan boy of a fantastic director, you have to be stuck up and pretentious, not just a big fan. Awesome, I can continue to believe Kubrick and Bergman never made a bad film (at least from what I’ve seen, and that doesn’t count things like Fear and Desire).
Ryan, someone really thought they were too good for ACO? That’s beyond ridiculous and pretentious.
I’ve got to agree with HAL
It’s nice to see that people log onto a site called THEAUTEURS and get angry when they see people who love foreign, and art film.
godard
Anonymity, I don’t think that’s fair. They are saying the people who act like snobs anger them. Saying you are above A Clockwork Orange is a bit much. Personally, I would rather someone be pretentious than obsessed with Michael Bay.
This site was created for the pretentious (if anyone can come up with a real definition of that word I’ll give them a crisp new dollar) art film crowd. It was created for people most others would consider snobs, and now all I see is list threads and people complaining that there are snobbish people here who don’t think Tarantino is the greatest filmmaker of our generation.
“The artsy/foreign/obscure director fanboys that think their shit dont stink are the worst kind of fanboys.”
bingo. we have a winner
^ The troll agrees and thus makes my point.

cute
just read the threads on this board, real easy to spot the worst fan boys by their bombastic, pompous posts
Anonymity, I agree with a lot of what you said. I am a snob and pretentious (I agree the definitions are not clear), but I think there are levels. Ignoring Kubrick because he isn’t good enough for you is different than not going with your friends to the latest action movie. Also the lists threads have been out of control in the past few days, but I think due to the trolls people have just not cared as much. And the burst of love for Tarantino is odd.
“Ignoring Kubrick because he isn’t good enough for you is different than not going with your friends to the latest action movie.”
No its not. If you dislike something, as long as you can back it up, you belong on this site. The problem is that the majority on this site nowadays can’t, and they get mad at those that can. There are a lot of reasons to be dislike what is going on in this site (list threads, trolls, repetitive post popping up minute after minute), but disliking people on this site because they’re able to back up their opinion with studied, eloquent posts isn’t one.
Sure if someone has reasons they can like and dislike any film they please. Its even ok to just have a feeling, and not be able to describe it (even though this is annoying when you are trying to discuss with them). But to say a film such as ACO is just not good enough for you and give no reasons is a bit annoying.
I don’t want to argue with you because I agree with you. It seems every time I call someone out for a repeat post, ten more show up so I just give up.
I think HAL was talking about the ones that think they’re above you for liking and disliking such and such auteurs. It’s one thing to be an intelligent writer of insightful reviews and be open to opposing viewpoints and another thing completely to think your opinion is the be all end all of film critique, to disown anyone who disagrees with you.
“I think Hal was talking about the ones that think they’re above you for liking such and such auteurs.”
You already know how I feel about these people Shemp, but on a site like this it should be expected, as unfortunate as that may be. I’d rather have jerks who think they’re better than me than trolls who think they’re better than me, but are only able to back it up by telling me I’m gay, and such.
(sigh) I think most of us agree with that, Anonymity.
Tarantino without a doubt, his fanboys are not only film fans but also filmmakers – if I meet another filmmaker who tells me their style is incredibly similar to his, I might cry.
Pretty much every director mentioned on this entertainingly IMDB-scented thread. And most of the others as well.

Some of the smartest words to written on The Auteurs in a long, long time.
And Drew – this is NOT directed at you, but elsewhere, and very much with an eye towards the precipitous downhill lurch these forums have taken in recent weeks.
I’ll never understand why every online discussion site on earth has to devolve into shit-flinging anti-intellectualism simply because of some vague sense of I can say anything I want, however, whenever. No you can’t, and if you think you can, you’re not really thinking, because you’re employing the stunted logic of a free-range 2-year-old stuck in the body of a theoretical adult. And life is not a race to the bottom.
I blame teachers: There are no questions too stupid to ask. Actually, there are billions, and you should therefore think before you speak. Or write.
Or not – the choice belongs to the speaker in question. If he or she wants to go through life looking like a nimrod who needs to move out of their parents’ basement, put the heartache of middle school behind them, and develop a non-chatroom-derived sex life with a person who isn’t fluent in Klingon, then I guess it’s their right to do so. Just don’t expect the rest of the world to find it impressive or interesting.
Are George Lucas fanboys really fanboys of George Lucas or of Star Wars itself? I’ve known quite a few Star Wars fanatics but never a George Lucas one. I think they respect him since he created their world but at the end of the day they are Star Wars fanboys, not Lucas fanboys. They would be true Lucas boys if they crossed over into Indiana Jones, American Graffiti, THX, etc…but they generally just stick to Star Wars…but I’m speaking as someone who doesn’t belong to that crowd so I could be wrong
That movie Serenity has the most ridiculous fanboys I’ve ever seen. Truly laughable group of people.
Haha. I read the title of this board and think “Tarantino”. Then I click on it and the first reply is plain and simple “Tarantino”.
I must agree. Just go to his imdb message board and read a few posts and you will see. As for Wes Anderson, Kevin Smith etc., they might have fanboys too, but these directors are not nearly as popular as Tarantino.
Fanboys of the film Scarface are really annoying also.
Fredo
Bergman, hands down.
