Which famous director would you want to date, living or dead?

Tim Roth, Gary Oldman (each directed one film, so it counts) David Gordon Green …. and a young Alan Resnais

Maria de Medeiros comes to mind. And she’s Portuguese! Most beautiful women in the world the Portuguese. Well, maybe Venezuelans but i’m less familiar with them.

Oh, Alice Guy, Forough Farrokhzad, Samira Makhmalbaf..

threads keep getting weirder….

“Most beautiful women in the world the Portuguese.”

I haven’t been to Portugal, but my current home of Hawaii has a huge population of Portuguese descent, and the women are indeed beautiful. The mixed women of partial Portuguese descent are even more beautiful, in my opinion.

John Cassavetes, circa 1968.
I’d even allow Gena to get in on the action. She IS Gena, after all…

Ha-HA! The females obviously have a bit of an advantage on this topic.

So, I would say…

1. Orson Welles, just because he was so completely attractive back in his 30’s, you know…The Third Man and all.
2. Spike Jonze. One: he’s amazingly adorable. Two: Ever since seeing the video for “Wax” by California, I have had an odd childish reverence of him. Three: I think he could make me laugh. And also keep me entertained for, you know, a good lifetime or so.
3. Godard. I have to throw him in here. There is something really twisted about being in a relationship with him, in the most masochistic of ways. (Which, as we know from our years of watching films, is what all women fundamentally are)

The first is Euzhan Palcy!

Correctamundo!

The second is Julie Dash, who is not only a great great filmmaker but a super nice person as well. And that’s an older picture of her, but she still looks amazing, and she has to be around 50 now, I think.

I just checked and Julie was born Oct 1952. (i liked Daughters of the Dust)

ok, another, for you clever folk:

Vera Chytilova?

I’ll say Natalie Portman, though she hasn’t directed anything yet. She is directed a portion of New York, I Love You, so I’m going to say that counts.

Věra Chytilová? I hope so. I’m so fond of Daisies.

Edit: Aw, Dimitris beat me to it!

I would date Sarah Polley, Sofia Coppola and Agnes Varda, for sure.

Julie Taymor is gorgeous fora woman her age (heck, any age) even though she made the hugely shitty Across the Universe.

Kimberly Pierce and Jodie Foster are both beautiful and extremely talented filmmakers and would want nothing whatsoever to do with me, but it’s not like any other part of this list isn’t fantasy-land, so what the hell.

Daughters of the Dust is an amazing film. I’m convinced the creative team behind Jonathan Demme’s Beloved totally stole the cinematography from that film. I asked Julie Dash about this, and she was gracious enough to dodge the question and say that she was not involved in any way with the Demme film. I know this is a bit tangential, but why shouldn’t someone like Julie Dash be a natural choice for a project like Beloved? Sigh…

Oh, and she looks amazing at 57. Wow.

Vera Chytilova is right! I’m impressed.

Oh. Sorry. DATE in THAT SENSE. Ah… IN Spain could also mean a way of reunite and just talkin’. With no SEXUAL MEANING. Well they are GIRLS…..WELL.

Kathryn Bigelow (eighties, of course!), Miranda July and Sofia Coppola.

I want to convince Coppola that In the mood for love is better and I made them a new GIRL. I PROMISE. I’D SHOW her THE WAY.

George Roy Hill – because I’d like to have pointed out the inaccuracies in Michener’s “Hawaii” (btw my grandfather was head security on that set and had such great stories) ….. also a date with Frank Capra, Wim Wenders and Francois Truffaut would be memorable.
