Which is the best piece of miscasting ever???

My vote is for John Wayne as Genghis Khan in “The Conqueror”. Don’t watch it with a full bladder!

Don’t you mean worst miscasting ever? LOL

The best: John Travolta in Battlefield Earth

The worst: George Clooney in Batman & Robin

These are VERY FINE contenders, Dude, old chap! Another occurred to me: Carl Anderson as Judas Iscariot! Didn’t anyone tell the director (one Norman Jewison) Judas was white and Jewish? Try not to laugh at the photo below…

RE: Clooney as Batman…wasn’t his nippled costume miscast more than he was?

Absurd, out of their depth, & sometimes just plain silly casting:

EVERYONE in SGT PEPPER… -- Frampton, The BeeGees, George Burns, Donald Pleasence..’nuf said

Diane Lane in THE COTTON CLUB - the talented Lane came aross as a child playing dress up. FF Coppola cast her wisely in RUMBLE FISH & THE OUTSIDERS then stumbled badly here

Madonna in SHANGHAI SURPRISE -- Not yet established as pretty much un-castable, Madonna as a missionary was the height of stupidity even in the mid-80s

Jack Nicholson in HOFFA - huh?

Robert Redford in THE CHASE -- as Bubba? A role better suited for Steve McQueen or Rip Torn

Robert Redford in THE GREAT GATSBY - as Gatsby? Redford is about as enigmatic as a pancake

Al Pacino in REVOLUTION - Legendary mis-casting here as Hugh Hudson derails his directing career with this woeful mess

Diana Ross in THE WIZ -- Ross was 34 playing 24 in a role that was played by 18 year old Stephanie Mills

Barbra Striesand in THE PRINCE OF TIDES -- Barbra Streisand PhD, MD?

Marlon Brando in DESIREE -- Brando as Napoleon makes Brando as Fletcher Christian seem plausible

Lana Turner in IMITATION OF LIFE - camp value aside, the notion of the near 40 year old Turner as a struggling actress is absurd

Jean Seberg in SAINT JOAN - low hanging fruit to be sure as Otto Preminger’s casting choice here is legendary…the great Seberg did go on to prove to be a fine actress, but is way out of her depth amongst Geilgud, Walbrook & Widmark

and let’s not forget about 95% of the cast of THE TEN COMMANDMENTS

Back in the late 70s Stallone wanted to star and direct an Edgard Allan Poe biopic…

Or how about James Cagney as Bottom in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. You keep expecting im to call the others dirty rats…

“Back in the late 70s Stallone wanted to star and direct an Edgard Allan Poe biopic…”

He mentioned it again in a recent interview, still has plans to do it someday

Michael Jackson also wanted to play Poe in a film, no joke.

As to the question, did not buy Michael J Fox in Light of Day or Bright Lights, Big City, doubt I will buy Ellen Page as an object of desire in Woody Allen’s next

Keanu Reeves as Johnathan Harker in Dracula (I still have nightmares about the way he pronounces Budapest)

Salma Hayek as Minerva Mirabal in In the Time of the Butterflies (all latin americans do not look nor sound alike)

Arnold Schwarzenegger as John Matrix/John Kimble/Jack Slater/anybody born in the US (they gave up with Van Damme at some point and started giving his characters french names but they never did that for Arnie…)

Brad S.

Kenneth Branagh should have his own wing in this category:

Keanu Reeves as Don John and Michael Keaton as Dogberry in Much Ado About Nothing

Jack Lemmon as Marcellus and Robin Williams as Osric in Hamlet (I actually thought Billy Crystal as the gravedigger worked.)

^ Both these films are still wonderful despite the miscasting, unlike…

Alicia Silverstone as the Princess in Love’s Labor’s Lost

Himself as Dr. Frankenstein in Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein

Julie Taymor almost ruined The Tempest by casting Russel Brand as Trinculo, but made up for it with Helem Mirren.

Mel Gibson as Hamlet – Bet you forgot that shit actually happened.

RE: LOST HORIZON

great call…the mere mention of Bobby Van & John Gielgud is grotesque enough

Tom Cruise in Interview With The Vampire
Leonardo Dicaprio in The Aviator
Mike Myers in every role in every Austin Powers film that is not Austin Powers or Dr Evil

The bloke who played the halfwit in Forrest Gump – I forget his name but he seemed too stupid for the role.
