Strangely enough for a guy – Going Shopping. Lee Grant has some of the funniest scenes.
Also Hollywood Dreams because looking at Tanna Frederick makes me feel better.
And Air Force One gives me that rush of adrenaline that’s fun.
Shawshank Redemption for the same reason as Melanie..

The Maltese Falcon always puts a smile on my face.
Some like it Hot…Jack Lemmon telling himself “I´m a girl, I´m a girl”
The Big Lebowski…Walter : You want a toe? I can get you a toe, believe me. There are ways, Dude. You don’t wanna know about it, believe me.

I would agree with the above poster, Marx Brothers definitely… Duck Soup for me
also, The Big Lebowski is a big one just because it is so quotable and fun
I also love Blazing Saddles

here is one that I have only recently discovered: Alyas Batman en Robin… this is awesome http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0121067/

my number one choice has to be Terror Firmer though

The Big Lebowski or In Bruges, I must have seen 10 times each

I find that when I’m down, I don’t in reality want to be “picked up.” So, I’ll generally watch something that suits my mood. Or at least, in a way.

Singin’ In The Rain and His Girl Friday or I turn to television with Everybody Loves Raymond and Futurama. These are always good for a pick me up.

Pretty much the entire filmographies of:

Judd Apatow
Kevin Smith
Bill Murray
The Marx Brothers
Mike Myers (except for the Shrek sequels. Even The Love Guru manages to beat the pulp out of the Shrek sequels)

The Big Chill
Hollywood Dreams
Irene In Time – just watching Irene’s (Tanna Frederick) dating scenes makes me feel better. I’m not that crazy and I’ve got better taste in men. Frederick does wacked-out, neurotic characters very well. I suspect she’s really calm, cool and collected in real life.

Tao Ruspoli’s FIX. Not an outstanding achievement in cinema by any standard, but it’s got this amazing effect on me. Sometimes I just let it play in the background.

@Marcus I can’t listen to / hear California Dreamin’ playing anywhere without seeing Faye Wong dancing in my head.

haha, I was just watching Chungking the other day. Somebody should start a thread about who is the ultimate Manic pixie dream girl. My vote Zooey D.

Sue Denim

depends entirely on why I’m down. For example: Perhaps I’d choose Chungking Express if I had trouble at university but I’d never watch it lovesick. While dealing with heartache, the film should exude the same sadness and anguish I’m feeling – only stronger. So that I’m reminded that things could be much much worse.

Remedies to cure november depressions:
2046
Eternal Sunshine of a spotless mind
Monsters Inc, closely followed by Ice Age
everything by Wes Anderson
Ghostbusters
Hot Fuzz/Shaun of the Dead plus outtakes
The two Underworld-films with Kate Beckinsale
DEAD MAN
Pirates of the Carribean I

愛のコリーダ (Ai no corrida) always picks me up when I’m down. Effet spectaculaire.

…get it?
