WHO IS / WAS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL FILM ACTRESS EVER?

Gordon Ackerman

I’ll stump for Audrey Hepburn.

Monica Vitti.

Ingrid Bergman, I’d have have to say, off the top of my head. But damn, there’s so many lovely ladies out there, it’s hard to find yourself choosing just one.

Damn straight Armands.

Katharine Hepburn

I would say Grace Kelly would be the most beautiful American actress, I don’t know about the rest of the world. Brigitte Bardot and Anouk Aimee are ones that come to find from Europe.

Although she was primarily a singer, Francoise Hardy was in a number of films. She is, in my opinion, the most beautiful woman who ever lived.

Beautiful beyond words.

Kate Bosworth and Virginia Mayo would have to figure in my top-ten list, I think.

At the end of “Win a Date With Tad Hamilton”, I couldn’t get out of my seat. That may have had more to do with arthritis than with Kate.

Kate’s 217 years younger than I am but, as I have already made clear in these pages, I’m a perv.

Don’t believe it – it’s Sunday afternoon in Albany, NY, and this is my “California Chardonnay Be-Witching Hour.” To hell with everything but Napa Valley.

Take care.

PS – Wonder 6789: Do you not feel that Katherine H. is a bit, um, like “masculin”-looking? But still a beauty, of course..

The Corduroy Suit, I just watched some video of Francoise Hardy. You have fine taste! I like her singing as well.

Corduroy – Boy, French vocalists from the 50s sure manage to hang in there, don’t they? Francoise Hardy, France Gall, Johnny Holiday, Charles Aznavour – still going strong after all these years. These guys were top-of-the-charts when I lived in Paris in the FIFTIES, and they’re STILL top of the charts. Is Miraille Mathieu still around? Maybe it’s what they eat and drink (whoops, better go now.)

Rosario Dawson… off the top but that opinion could change after watching another film on another day in another mood. Isn’t the beauty of an actress inextricably tied to the characters they play?

@Gordon -She was a VERY feminine beauty (please revisit your Bringing up Baby, Philadelphia Story, etc.).

But it’s true her MIND was not always playing the traditional female game, therefore perhaps the perception of her as “masculine”.

I forgot to add, in terms of modern actresses, I’d have to say Jennifer Connelly tops my list.

An impossible question. So much depends upon what role they are playing. Audrey Hepburn was exquisite in some roles and not so hot in others and you react to her beauty according to how she affects you in that role. Plus, we have so much indoctrination to fight. So, I think Garbo in “A Woman Of Affairs,” Ava Gardner in “Bhowani Junction,” Louise Brooks in “The Canary Murder Case,” Frances Dee in “So Ends Our Night,” Merle Oberon in “The Scarlet Pimpernel,” Catherine Deneuve in “Belle De Jour,” Mireille Balin in “Pepe Le Moko,” Marlene Dietrich in “Shanghai Express,” Maria Casares in “Orpheus,” Arletty in “Children Of Paradise,” Josette Day in “La Belle et la Bete,” Claudia Cardinale in “The Leopard,” Sharmila Tagore in “Days and Nights in the Forest” are among the most beautiful women in the world in the films that they inhabited.

Kathy Bates.

Not an easy question, but I’d have to say (in no particular order):
1. Marlene Dietrich
2. Naomi Watts
3. Ingrid Bergman
4. Sharon Tate

yeah, that francoise hardy was a nice revelation for me too. thanks for the link. i’ll back you up on her.

but my winning vote has to go to brigette bardot. she has a raw, powerful beauty and sexuality that’s like a force of nature. i mean, she can knock you out of your seat with a look. i dont think i can name anybody that can top her. not even my modern favorites, like salma hayek and halle berry in their primes.

JEFFY

I think Rita Hayworth is the best classic beauty.

Dan T.

It has to be Scarlett Johansson for me.

Honourable mentions go to Anna Karina and Brigitte Bardot.
