Natalie Wood, no hesitation.
Jacqueline Bisset
Cyd Charisse
Soledad Miranda
Brigitte Bardot
Susan George
Emanuelle Beart
…. and for one current- Ludivine Sagnier
Setsuko Hara and Suzan Hayward……out of my many favorites…
Wow, two months away and the same old threads are going strong… :-)
I’ve never been so drawn to a movie just because of the female lead’s beauty as I was when I viewed Monica Vitti in L’avventura
Madhabi Mukherjee is the most beautiful actress ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree, she was wonderful in Charulata. It seems like they´re currently working on a Bollywood film about her love story with Satyajit Ray. Ganesha beware!
Kate Beckinsdale, she’s hot!
Anna Karina or
Natalie Portman
…but mostly Anna Karina
I find Madhabi Mukherjee can look incredibly beautiful in some shots, not so beautiful in others. I’m more of a Sharmila Tagore fan when it comes to Indian actresses. Man, she was so stunning in The World of Apu. I’d love to be her last-minute accidental husband! :P
But Dolores del Rio in Maria Candeleria might be the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen on celluloid. Man, oh, man…
If you liked Sharmila Tagore in The World of Apu, then you should definitely see her in Days and Nights in the Forest. Satyajit Ray definitely worked with some of the most beautiful actresses (although Mrinal Sen was the one who discovered Madhabi Mukherjee), and another great choice of his was Krishna Bose who starred in The Adversary.
Monica Vitti, Anna Karina, and Hanna Schygulla would be my top three right now…. There are probably lots of beautiful actresses that I haven’t discovered yet though..
Anna Karina in the 60s, Christina Lindberg in the 70s, Keira Knightley from the nose up.
Oh, and Audrey Hepburn.
Honorable Mention: Brigitte Bardot, who loses points for 1. being an insane racist to the point that I can’t really divorce her image from such 2. looking like a scrotum slathered with makeup these days
Alison Lohman in Drag Me To Hell was such a cutie.
Silvana Mangano?
Monica Vitti
Anouk Aimee
Faye Dunaway
Julie Christie
Isabelle Adjani
Monica Vitti
Gong Li
Halle Berry
Raakhee
Salma Hayek
Amy Irving
Anne Hathaway
Sharmila Tagore
Liv Ullmann
I think beauty is more or less a very subjective thing.
In whole India there is no actress for me like Madhabi.
Charlize Theron
Halle Berry
Natalie Wood and Rachel Weisz
Charlotte Rampling in Farewell, My Lovely
Personal bests:
Naomi Watts
Anna Karina
Audrey Hepburn
Natalie Wood
Babara Stanwyck (damn, those legs)
Honorable mentions:
Emily Mortimer
Mariel Hemingway
Diane Keaton (like, Love and Death — Looking for Mr. Goodbar Diane Keaton…She was a Fox)
There are so many different kinds of beauty out there. Damn, and those last three are all Woody’s!
So, to clarify, even though I saw Match Point first, whenever I think Mortimer — I think Redbelt.
Monica Bellucci – beautiful but a stupid actress
Anne Wiazemsky – beautiful and a great actress
Ellie Lambeti
^ Seconded.
Ida Lupino.
MARGARITA TEREKHOVA in Tarkovskijs ‘The Mirror’.

Claire Bloom. WHAT A BABE!
Connor Thompson
Although I agree wholeheartedly about Karina and Cardinale, I’d say of recent film actresses my pick would be Leonor Watling or Rachel Weisz.
Ew, Bardot. I never understood the attraction.
