Not exactly a film personality, but Hunter S. Thompson.
Vincent Gallo. I’m at a loss as to how 99% of the world just do not get his aesthetics and sense of humor. Not just that, but actively resent him for sticking to his vision. They pretend to not understand when he’s joking vs. when he’s being serious. I’ve never heard any criticism of him that rang true – ever.
I suppose the qualifying phrase here is “more than anyone else”.
Hmmm…
Maybe the author John Updike?
I know lots of people “get” and like Woody Allen…… I recently re-watched CRIMES AND MISDEMEANORS… and I certainly felt an intense, intimate bond with that picture…..
I definitely "get GUMMO…….. where I’m not sure a lot of folks do…. but then, I know that milieu… those characters are not merely “freaky strangers” to me…
I definitely get the Spanish Cubist painter Juan Gris….. Plenty of people think of him as merely a polite contributor to Cubism, when I rather think he was a giant who mastered the ideas of modern art as well or better than anyone else…
