Me, definitely. Directing and cinematography mainly, but writing and acting as well. I’m interested in all parts, really. But yes, I am an aspiring filmmaker.

Has it been difficult for anyone to find a good crew? It usually isn’t that hard to find people willing to be in front of the camera, but no one ever seems to want to do anything else that is equally important. Like holding the boom.

Guys, this is really awesome. The idea behind The Auteurs is to create a gathering place for the world’s most passionate, interested, and sophisticated cinephiles to exchange ideas, tastes, opinions. Allowing you to interact directly with other filmmakers (and your audience), and scout talent for future projects is a big part of this vision. How can we at The Auteurs facilitate this better? We need some ideas!

I’m writer and director, but only of short films.
right now I can’t find (but I’m looking) a good story for my first full lenght film.

Working on the 5th draft of my short film.

To Efe, regarding an idea, are you interested in offering this website to these new filmmakers to exhibit their films?

Rica;
YES! This functionality will be live by Cannes in a couple of weeks. We are going to offer our platform to filmmakers (emerging and established) who would like to exhibit their films on The Auteurs. You will be able to upload your films and show them at a much higher quality (resolution & bitrate) than something like YouTube to a passionate community cinephiles.

We are very excited about this!

What is the best way of getting your film shown?

T

That’s a big question. It really depends on what kind of film you’ve made, format, content, length and quality. The festival circuit in the US is a quagmire of big studios touting work under the guise of independent films, and places like Sundance and the LA fest are hell because of it. Cinevegas is still good, because the people who run it are passionate and don’t compromise.
There are other paths, like the web: YouTube’s probably not such a great idea, because you’re up against a wall of home videos and idiotic comments, but there are other sites that might work for trailers, etc. In the end, you need a distribution deal, and that involves working out your legal elements, and negotiating something that won’t sell you down the river.
Best advice: make yourself a website (get a big dose of bandwidth), and stream your own stuff, promote elsewhere with trailers, research the festivals and submit to the right ones: and talk to as many people in the industry as possible. There are people out there with serious integrity pushing to get films produced, distributed and screened: find them.
Unfortunately, making films will always be time consuming and hard, hard work: and then you have to work twice as hard again to get it out there. But quality will always (eventually) be championed by someone, so don’t quit

I think when The Auteurs launches its homegrown screening room, it’d be a good place to begin exposure, get feedback, critique, etc.

Writing a script over the summer, have dozens of ideas to pick from… I’m already forming a local film collective with friends. I work as a writer, director, actor, and want to learn editing and cinematography. This would be a great place to host shorts.

I’m going to film school this fall. . .But I wanna write more then I want to direct. . .I really want to collaborate abroad and make a film in a language even I don’t know. Hire actors who speak French or something. . .I really want to make a movie out of Kerouac novela “Orpheus Emerged”. . .

TOBY MORGAN. . .Thats a good idea, man!

Actor (sometimes)

I am currently finishing my first feature length script while working on three others that I am working through. I have directed a handful of shorts for classes on digital video. I really want to make something on film stock in the future (I want to shoot my first feature on 16mm).

If anyone is going to be in NYC during the fall (I might also be there in the summer) let me know. I’m a student of film out of school and a Dramatic Writing major at NYU when at school. So if you are going to NYU (and a film student or not) or are in NYC let me know. We could hit up the Film Forum.

Karen, this is Toby aka T. What’s your angle with the Kerouac novella? because I’ve been toying with some adaptations of his writing for a while, and I’ve got a production company and…

I’m also starting film school in the fall. A bit on the outskirts of hollywood (the valley) but heck it’s all the same right?

I’m a bit young at this, so I can’t really tell ya what kind of movies I make, since I never really find out until I make one.

I write and I direct. I suppose I can act too but I’d rather see you up on the screen. That’s right, you. If any of you guys are out here in the west coast or LA, in the vicinity I guess, we should get together and get working on something. I know a couple spots out here where the wine’s good and there’s lots of interesting folks to talk to. A little drink and a little adventure really helps me get the noggin whirling. Don’t know about you.

Just post on my wall if you’re interested. I have a link to my YouTube site too. I have a couple of short films up there and my new one is hustling its way into the right compression. If there’s on enemy we’ve got in the net is the quality of the image. I suppose we should worry about the content first right?

Lets talk.

writer/director I’ve made four shorts and one feature. I’ve played quite a few places and worked on several features out in Hollyweird as assistant director. I reside in the midwest now. Feel free to add me as a friend and pick my brain if you want, I have lots of opinions. Going at it strong right now with www.barstoolcowboymovie.com

I can feel all the excitement. As for me, I’m catching up. It wasn’t until recently I discovered the wonders of film. I’m on the road now, honk if we ever meet at an intersection.

I have made three short films, two of which got me the top prizes at little local student competitions. I am planning on submitting a short to Apple’s Insomnia Film Fest (online) in November. Anyone else?

I am always generally itching to make movies. I have, however, yet to find someone to supplement my knack for cinematography/editing with superior writing skills…as a result my “films” tend to degenerate in to plotless messes. I’ll be honest.
