Why are MUBI users disappearing?

It’s great to see this thread attract so many MUBI members that I don’t normally see posting on the forums. I think Jazz should be given a lot of credit for spearheading most of these “A Kinder, Gentler MUBI” threads.

Because, and please excuse my somewhat uncivil language, unlike Nathan and Jazz, some people are just assholes.

No, because no one has referenced anything specific, and, even if they did, we’d had no way of tracing any contact that might have been made with moderators or admins.

This is a public forum. We’ve discussed this in the past. It’s very difficult, from what I’ve heard from people who regularly use public forums, to filter out “the assholes.” Moderation can help, but it cannot catch everything. The “ignore” or “hide” button is kinda ridiculous in my opinion, especially if you want to follow an entire conversation, question and response. Why people cannot just use their eyes to pass by what they don’t want to read is bizarre to me, but ok… If you want a truly 100% reliable civil discourse you need to be part of a private forum. That is the only airtight solution.

That being said, again, do you really think that the majority of members here are into internet brawling? I beg your pardon, but that is completely off the mark. MOST people I would venture would be for more civil and productive discussion. And MANY users try to do just that. I’ll count myself among the doves and not the hawks.

That’s one of the problems about airing this stuff – people are too afraid to name names – for pretty obvious reasons. I would say if you’re genuinely unaware of this stuff going on and which members and situations we’re all obliquely referencing then you shouldn’t really be taking much to do with this particular thread. Be assured though – if you care to look back at some of the old threads featuring ‘he who cannot be named’ and other significant members and (in)famous threads from the past you’ll soon get the picture.

I’m just gonna state a general opinion on the matter,I’ve been here on and off for a LONG minute now although. Its ETREAMLY rare 4 me 2 post for several reasons that I won’t get in2 right now and idk the fine details cause I don’t read all the pages of every single thread but I think people sould chill the fuck out and not b so sensitive,now I know every one have different levels of…tempermentality,but have a sense of humor and don’t get so serious and some approach film discussions here with a elitist mentally and/or on some occasions take it. 2 a seriousness that rivals that of politics and religion but then again certain people "passions"can take the best of them and with that in mind,lets act like our testicles actually have descended(unless ur some of the unfortunate few who haven’t dropped for medical reasons in that case my condolences or ur of the opposites sex in that case u go girl)and don’t take most things so seriously and let’s keep it moving with the discussions and inquiries and keep the interesting RELAXED oPen minded playful discourse comin…….btw jazz has been doing his thing on the forum lately,good work fam ;)
