why do some movies have ratings when they're still in pre-production?

Those outside normal release schedules have a valid reason to post their thoughts. Your opinion is still your own. You don’t have to read it.

I don’t think it would be that hard to rate Jane Eyre in advance.

As far as I can tell the movie hasn’t been made yet, so i’m pretty sure those outside of th normal release schedule haven’t seen it. and yeah Jane Eyre probably won’t be the best film of 2011, but rating it based on your opinions on the book is unjust to the director.

^ That would be wrong. But people rating a film that they’ve seen before its release date is completely valid and happens all the time.
