I sympathize in general, but The Road isn’t worth it, so don’t feel too bad. Read the book and you’ll get an infinitely richer experience.
I don’t think this is Weinstein Co’s money issues, just standard Oscar season “platforming.”
I do think we’re going to see more of this, even from non-awards season films. A wide release is expensive, and I think we’ll see more distributors testing the waters or trying to build buzz from these releases.
I’m still mad Tetro never made it to me.

I live in Rockford, IL and the only way I am going to be able to see The Road is if I drive about one hundred miles east of here on the outskirts of Chicago, IL. I called a local film reviewer who works for the Rockford newspaper and he was planning on seeing the film with his wife when it was released on the 25th of November. He seems to be certain that Rockford will gets its turn to see The Road.
I have been told that limited engagements are the result of The Wienstien Group filling for bankruptcy. They are probably trying to save money by limiting engagements so they will have full houses for viewings.
I really want to see this film. What a pity it is that crap rules and art is a gamble that usually doesn’t pay off.
I remember seeing Frida with a few friends on a weeknight; there were only seven people in th whole theather. The film stayed a week before moving on.
