Winter's Bone is a Terrible Film
Well, I just bought it, so, when I watch it, I come back and comment.
Do you mean terrible like Crossroads or terrible like Step Up 3D?

Well, they’re what you’d call terrible. I thought Winter’s Bone was very good, but I can’t say that your criticisms are unfounded. I sort of see where you’re coming from.
Do you think it’s a terrible film or do you just not like it?

I don’t agree, it does incredible work recreating a squalid and at times almost unbearably primitive set of living conditions.

There is difference between people who’re unable to seriously discuss films and those who’re unwilling to do it and just want to annoy. JL belongs to the latter category. He might as well post porn pictures, at least it would make it easier to get him muzzled.

because there are so many terrible films that are critically acclaimed, it could be useful for people to discuss and give opinions. This thread may have been made for trolling but certainly someone must think Winters Bone is a terrible film and can give reasons why

“Winter’s Bone” is indeed a terrible film. “Poverty Porn” has been the term of choice to describe it. And as glib as it may sound it’s true. It’s a peep show into a world of “them” guided by a pure-as-the-drive-slush LIVING SAINT the better for “us” to “identify with.” Why this girl is so good in a community that lives and breathes on EVIL (even the seemingly nice next-door-neighbor is in cahoots with the Meth Lab Mafia) is never explained.
I didn’t buy it for a nanosecond.
Genuine confrontations with the problems of the underlcass can be found in the works of Pasolini (who never condescended to make his pimps and thieves “look good”) and Werner Schoreter(particularly his masterpiece “Palermo oder Wolfsburg”)

If Winter’s Bone is like any other poverty porn film, Ghost Writer is no different than the Michael Claytons and Internationals of this worthless piece of filmmaking. Wake up Ehrenstein, Polanski has lost it. Oh wait, you’re the one championing Scott Pilgrim too? No wonder critics like you have turned Fincher and Aronofsky and the lot of their kinds as some sort of “masters”.
Eh, “poverty porn” was coined to describe films like City of God and Slumdog Millionaire. I hardly see how it relates here. The film isn’t exploitative of its material and, plus, if you’re going to fault it for having too saintly of a lead character, it’s hardly falling into the dictates of the poverty porn descriptor.
