The Marine 2? Haha….but really, I’d have to say “Knowing” was pretty bad.
Jennifer’s Body. Couldn’t get through it but I assume the 2nd half was just as bad
1. Knowing… was really horrible. I suspected it probably was, and it didn’t disappoint. Couldn’t even finish it.
2. G.I. Joe … haven’t been so bored during an action flick since Ecks vs. Sever. cringe
3. Watchmen … I know some will disagree but for me this was the most disappointing movie that I went to in the theater. The others I thankfully caught on Netflix instead. It started off OK, but began to derail fairly quickly for me.
oops, double posted. But I will take the opportunity to say Underworld: Rise of the Lycans was terrible as well. Not that the first Underworld was a masterpeice but… wow.
Year one was bad more mediocre but not one of the worst i wish i would have remembered the informers that would have been my #2 of the year janky promoters went straight to home video. alot of these films on the worst list of other i knowingly skipped becasue i knew they would be bad maybe if they are on cable i will sample them
Precious
A Serious Man
Avatar (the cg effects were pretty good, but everything else was shit)
Antichrist (slow, boring, and cheesy)
Worlds Greatest Dad (i liked the concept of the story, but i felt the direction was completely terrible)
those were the worst from what ive seen this year.
I’m glad to see someone say Avatar. I wouldn’t say it was necessarily the worst movie, but it was pretty bad.
1. My Bloody Valentine
2. Push
3. Paul Blart: Mall Cop
4. The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard
5. G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra
6. Obsessed
7. Fast & Furious
8. Extract
9. Away We Go
10. Couples Retreat
What? NINE was too good for you people?
YOU people? you PEOPLE. Oh no you di-int!
You buy a ticket for some of this garbage, what is it you’re expecting to see? It’s nothing but product. You can tell that well in advance of buying a ticket. 12 turds @ $12.50= $150.00 That’s a really good meal for two at a good restaurant. Far better than wasting it on shitty movies. I see some of this crap, but I catch it on cable, and usually I don’t make it through to the end.
@David
Damn, Worlds Greatest Dad was bad for you? I thought it was at least an average film and one of the most under appreciated of 2009 with those box office totals, but I thought the opposite of you with the direction and the story. I thought the direction is what saved a pretty (intentionally if possible..) corny story.
Knowing was top 3 in the worst movies in any category that I have ever seen and two movies that I was “forced” to watch with my family to increase bonding:
-New in Town
-The Blind Side
WITH NEW IN TOWN MORE ENTERTAINING THAN THE BLIND SIDE
And that was how bad The Blind Side was.
I don’t think I saw any new films I consider ‘bad’ this year.
The worst new movie I saw this year was Julie and Julia, and it’s like 6/10. Or maybe It Might Get Loud, which is more of a 5/10.
But I didn’t see Knowing or 2012 or stuff like that.
@David Ehrenstein
A Serious Man is my favorite movie released this year. You prefer endings that answer the film’s questions definitively then lecture you on them the way Up In The Air does?
Two slights against Up In The Air in the same topic… let’s start a movement. Maybe it won’t dominate Award’s Season.
In all seriousness, the more and more films I’ve seen, I’ve gotten quite cynical about the experience. Go back ten years and I was fairly susceptible to the emotional draw of something like American Beauty, but it just did not stand up to time… at all. Up In The Air is the same thing for me, except 10 additional years of film scars allowed me to realize it while still in the theater.
Zach, Its funny. Those three films, are among a friend of mine’s favorites. :D
Drew, hahahahhaha. I’m sorry to say this, but I must admit that I am disinclined to like your friend’s taste in film. :D

2012 sucked.
Knowing sucked.
Fast & Furious sucked.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine sucked.
2009 has had its fair share of stinkers.
I didn’t see any of these, but there was the Twilight sequel, various Zac Effron films, Jennifer’s Body, Transformers 2 etc etc.
Didn’t you guys sort of know what you were getting into when you decide to go see GI Joe or Mall Cop?
(I’m just curious what lured you to see these movies)
The worst movie I’ve seen this year is Sweden’s AS IT IS IN HEAVEN and TAIWAN’s Cape No.7. Those so called praises and acclaims were complete lies. These two were trash.
I think Up In The Air was awful and boring, too.
The correct answer is Year One.
Written by the once-genius Harold Ramis + two regular writers from The Office, starring a bunch of people who have been in really solid-to-great comedies … HOW did this turn out so bad? One of my least favorite movies EVER for sure.
I just have to say, knowing. I can’t believe I watched the whole thing. I love talking to people about it at work (video store) when they try to ‘explain’ everything to me. Hilarious.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine. It seems that I was the only one at school that didn’t liked that movie, now I know I’m not alone :)
>>Didn’t you guys sort of know what you were getting into when you decide to go see GI Joe or Mall Cop?<<
A perfectly legitimate question.
>>the once-genius Harold Ramis<<
The whaaaaaat?
At his very best (GHOSTBUSTERS), he’s no better than good.
First film I walked out of ever (having even sat through Judge Dredd all those years ago) was Shall We Kiss.

Harry, I’d guess he’d be referring less to Ghostbusters than to Groundhog Day which may not be genius but is one of the better studio comedies of the 1990s.
I don’t mean “genius” as Auteurs-approved high-art cinema or anything. To me, Groundhog Day is the funniest movie ever. The Ghostbusters movies were also highly enjoyable.
The man did Caddyshack and the underrated hilarious
Stuart Saves his Family
yes I thought Year One was without a single laugh but I still think the man has tremendous talent
I had to sit through that Fat Mall Cop one. It was completely devoid of any humor whatsoever. Awful.
Douglas Diderot
1. Year One
2. Gamer
3. Where The Wild Things Are
