The guy who wrote Drillbit Taylor?
^^User. ha!
so much for hoping for Curly Sue 2
Okay come on, he had some good movies.
I’m talking about John Hughes here, NOT this Edmond Dantes fellow.
How old was he? Damn.
59. Out for a walk. Dropped stone cold dead.
Damn.
We would have been Flubber-less without him.
Some of my favourite films from the 80s were by John Hughes:
Planes Trains & Automobiles
Ferris Beuller’s Day Off
Uncle Buck
Bummer
:o(
Yeah, thank you Rumplesink!
You guys can’t tell me you’re too cool for Ferris Bueller.
Or at least I won’t believe that you are.
Leah, I am fairly confident everyone in the world likes Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
Shame. He was a true icon of an era. I probably couldn’t count how many times I watched Weird Science in my younger days.
R.i.p. ) :
Very sad. He had one success after another and then stopped. Isuspect he’s been ill for some time.
“Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” is a classic . One of the best filsm ever made about how it FEELS to be young, and on top of your game. He defined his tiem.
Now we’ve got Judd Apatow. YUCK!

R.I.P. Long Duck Dong. My Asian role model…
He has left. I will cry.
Sad.
Every 90’s teen movie owes a debt to him. This sucks
“He’ll keep callin’ me, he’ll make me feel guilty. This this is riduculous. I’ll go I’ll go I’ll go I’ll go I’ll go…shit!”
Why is John Hughes getting all the publicity. Does no one care about Budd Schulberg (On The Waterfront)?? For shame.
John Hughes was one of the most relevant writers and directors of the 80’s. His movies spoke of and to a generation, to which I partly belong, marked by the pop culture of that decade. It was the era of yuppies, videogames, flashy clothes and one-hit wonders. I’ll forever remember films such as “Breakfast Club”, “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”, “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” and “Home Alone”. Hughes rocketed to fame a whole generation of young actors and certainly plays a role in the history of lighthearted comedy. He won’t be remembered as a master filmmmaker, but will surely stay in the hearts and minds of those who grew up with his funny and often inspiring works. Rest in peace John.
Yeah, Hughes’s directorial career occurred roughly simultaneous with my high school career (Uncle Buck came out the summer after I graduated).
Time for a Brat Pack marathon on TNT. Put on Breakfast Club
I’m not sure how I feel about Feriris Bueller’s Day Off but I sure like that Ferris Bueller kid. He was the shit. Whatever happened to Sloan?
@Glemand
Budd Schulberg’s lost is certainly felt, but this is a tribute thread for John Hughes. Is that shameful? I don’t think so.
leah
How sad!
