Your film picture and why?

Hidden Behind the Screen

I’m talking about the one to the right of your name. Mine is of Chungking Express.
What is yours and why did you pick it?

Fassbinder
Why? Fassbinder rocks and It’s pretty much the only one that liked.

Hidden Behind the Screen

I do like that picture of Fassbinder…he looks like a kick-ass guy.

The Conversation because it is the one film which informs most on my style of writing, editing and camerawork.

My Neighbour Totoro. It’s the only film-animation picture in the list, and it’s a great movie anyway!

Barton Fink because that movie is amazing

Stalker. Because there wan’t much choice as far as I recall.
No actually, I do like that scene from Stalker. Sums up a lot of what I like about film.

Stalker, when I first saw the film I was impressed, but nothing more. Some weeks laterhappened something that was one of the most important and hardest moments of my life (hard to describe) I was shaking and immediatly remembered the film’s final shot. I fell as if I was the Stalker, I fell its lonelitude and sadness. That’s why I love the film so much.

Hitchcock.

I just saw NOTORIOUS and was bowled over by how elegant and precise it is…. Not a spare shot or superfluous acting gesture… So stylish. Modern aspirants need to study NOTORIOUS.

Reservoir Dogs because it’s one of my favorite films. I also used the Stalker and Being John Malkovich ones before. Not to criticize, nor to say they are not enough choices, but it would be nice, IMO, if from time to time some new ones would be added.

“it would be nice, IMO, if from time to time some new ones would be added.”
I agree.

The Great Stone Face

actually because I have been known to turn people off through lack of facial expression. Sometimes people don’t know I’m joking because I have a serious face, and having a serious face was always really helpful in buying rated R movies and parental guidance tagged CDs from places that actually gave a shit about checking when I was younger.

Just one of the many ways I relate to Buster Keaton. Also, because he’s a technical genius and storytelling master I hope someday to be half as good as.

I’ve gone back and forth between 2001, Fassbinder and Stalker, because there aren’t any better ones currently available.

Note to MUBI – make more.

Hitchcock. I grew up with his presence as a constant in my household. I was captivated by Rear Window and Vertigo before I was old enough to even really understand what was going on in either of them. As my tastes evolved, so did my appreciation for his work.

I agree Mubi desperately needs to make more…
There has been some very very interesting stories here, that’s what I wanted. Keep em coming.
Personally I chose Chungking Express because it pretty much sums up what I want in a film. Style, tons of style. Music, tons of music. Tony Leung…Lots of emotion that I can personally relate to, a bit of action and suspence, narration, great editing and camera work and most of all a wreckless and unique sence of originality.

Does anyone know what films the next three pictures down from Full Metal Jacket are from? There’s one with a bunch of faces, then down from that is two guys talking and pointing, and down from that are 3 guys pointing guns.
???

Breathless.
1st cause it’s a pretty picture.
2nd cause Godard is the cutest little old guy ever!
3rd cause it’s a great movie, not the best, but great.
4th cause I love nouvelle vague
5th lack of options

Hidden Behind the Screen

So nobody knows what films those pics are from? Mubi should tell where they’re from…Not everyone here’s a walking cinematic encyclopedia ala Martin Scorcese. (though from my experiance here so far I’d say most of you are)
Those are the only 3 I don’t know though.

Breathless because Godard is my new fav director. I would prefer to have Alphaville or even better, Vivre sa Vie, but Breathless is the only Godard film pic available unfortunately.

Casablanca is my picture. When I think about that wonderful movie I see Ingrid Bergman and I hear the song As time goes by… I’ll never forget the song of this movie. I love the actors and the story.
Casablanca is just awesome! It’s one of my favorite movie and it will always be.

By the way, you HAVE to listen the song (once again or for the first time…)! Enjoy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vThuwa5RZU

@Florine T. You really don’t need to apologize for your English, it was pretty flawless…
I love Casablanca also. One of my favorites.

Yamamoto

@Florine
Are you sure that’s Casablanca? I looked at it now and that doesn’t look like Ingrid Bergman, that looks like Lauren Bacall

Hidden Behind the Screen

Oh dang you’re right that is not Casablanca. (I didn’t remember it actually having a pic)
I’m pretty sure that’s “To Have and To Have Not”… Haven’t seen it yet, it’s on my list.
