Paris, Texas.
I had to sell 5 records and 2 dvds and still paid 2 bucks. Amoeba records is ruthless, down with indie walmart.
Just ordered Stagecoach blu, Paths of Glory blu and Bigger Than Life blu. Recently watched Revanche, Last Year at Marienbad and Day of Wrath. Revanche is every bit of the masterpiece I expected it to be. LYAM was pretty sweet visually but a tad monotonous. That was the 2nd Resnais film I’ve seen in the collection that I wasn’t very impressed with. Day of Wrath from the Dreyer Box Set was very good. Though set nearly 300 years apart, the tone and atmosphere reminded me a lot of Haneke’s The White Ribbon.
Just received The Milky Way, and Modern Times. First chaplin in my collection! The packet feels handmade almost. I’ve been meaning to buy Milky Way for a while and they’re still selling it from amazon directly.
Seven Samurai and Night of the Hunter on Blu. Should be in my mailbox any day now.
The Hunger, Brand Upon the Brain, & Nikkatsu Noir. The Nikkatsu Noir set is my first buy of the Eclipse Series and I’m a tad disappointed with the overall packaging. As far as content, I was hoping for a little something extra. Other than that I’m happy with my purchases.
Just ordered the America Lost and Found boxset yusss
Modern TImes was fantastic, definitely one of the years best!
Modern Times blu
cronos & hunger
cronos is fun, but thats about it. has a city of lost children vibe/atmosphere. its still nothing special.
hunger is great. i saw it a few times when it played @ IFC. i was holding off on buying it, but i knew i wasnt going to be watching it any time soon.
I bought House about a month ago, and it was very enjoyable.
America Lost And Found : The BBS Story blu-ray
The Hidden Fortress and Rashomon. Trying to bulk up my Kurosawa collection.
Good for you Max! Kurosawa is amazing.
Most recent. The Josef Von Sternberg set. Absolutely marvelous. I became an instant Sternberg fan and cannot wait to see his Scarlett Empress and Blue Angel.
The Hidden Fortress Essential Art House. My original Criterion was too scratched up, so I thought I’d steal this from the b&n sale for only ten dollars.
The Darjeeling Limited. Still gotta sell my old non Criterion version. Love that film.
Yojimbo/Sanjuro the new set of both films. Still waiting for them to arrive…=[, but I’m pumped for the supplements!!
The new Seven Samurai set. Marvelous looking set, simply beautiful, and I haven’t even seen the transfer yet. Some excellent features including a Kurosawa interview.
^
Got the blu first day
THE TRANSFER IS AMAZING
ahhhh god
it was so nice
Just picked up simon of the desert. Some of Bunuel’s most evokative images in that one.
Charade
Went to borders today to do some freestyle buying and I picked up Paris, Texas (I’ve seen half of this on netflix) and suprisingly White Dog (The cover has always interested me). I see Wings of Desire making it’s way into my collection someday soon and I can’t wait for the Naked Kiss and Shock Corridor. I was gonna pick up Red Desert and The Theif of Bagdad but I decided to hold out on those for after X-Mas. Next year I am going to save every penny of the money I earn to spend on the Barnes and Noble 50% off sale so I won’t be on this thread much unless CC releases something extremely awesome I can’t wait for.
Did anyone else notice on the Seven Samurai blu ray, some ghosting when some characters were running.
I’m gonna go check, but I think it was when the young want to be samurai found the villager in the woods and chased after, only to find out it was a girl…
Snagged a few OOP titles off Ebay and Amazon today :B Prices I paid for these brand new DVDs was shocking considering they are OOP criterion! Each title was under the 25$ mark!
Henri-Georges Cluzot’s Le Corbeau & Quai des Orfèvres.
&
Luis Bunuel’s Diary of a Chambermaid, which is the only Bunuel Criterion release I was missing! :D
Nikkatsu Noir Eclipse Box Set
Japan-noir is best noir.
How is that Nikkatsu Noir set? I was thinkin about pickin it up…
Well, not a purchase, but a Christmas gift I just received: Cronos, by Guillermo del Toro. I saw it years ago,but it’s been ages since I last saw it. Looking forward to seeing it again.
@HBtS: The set is excellent. “A Colt is My Passport” and “I Am Waiting” are good enough to justify their own individual releases, and the others are fine as well. It’s a great deal for the films, all of which are superb.
BBS Story….THE COLLECTION of THE YEAR!!!
Awesome finds yesterday-
Antichrist for $9
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas for $8
and Modern Times for Christmas. Good times.
Damn Brady, where do you shop?! :P
My local DVD store was closing. When the manager found out about it, he ordered all the Criterions stocked away because were worth a good sum of money. I managed to find some of the stragglers. I’m surprised I found Antichrist so early into its release…
Only downside is that they come without booklets. But you can find that stuff online, anyway.
Made in USA
Got Traffic offa Ebay for $5, and received 3 Films by Louis Malle, In The Mood For Love and Passion of Joan of Arc in trades. Also got (a semi beat-up) copy of Amarcord for $13 offa Ebay.

Joey… if there’s any boxset to pick up, it’s the Pedro Costa set. Don’t pass it up if you can help it.
Also, AWESOME choice with the Allan King set.
