My mom ordered Band of Outsiders and Breathless for christmas, they should be arriving soon.

BREATHLESS was the last and BAND OF OUTSIDERS before that. Each I had seen before purchasing (as is my policy) and with each Criterion did an awesome job. How could you be displeased with Breathless? The extra features were complementary and enhanced my most recent viewing experience.

Criterion for President.

For Christmas my sister bought me M and Antichrist.

I spent last weekend going through the BBS set, which was a complete joy, even it did keep me from doing anything remotely productive. Just picked up the Videodrome blu-ray with a gift card; can’t wait to revisit this one.

I didn’t get any movies for x-mas… apparently nobody loves me that much. :-P
However, I did get the Criterion poster of Vivre sa vie :-)

I love that Vivre sa vie poster! I made a frame for it and hung it in my living room -)

I received Seven Samurai on blu-ray for Christmas. And today I used my miscellaneous gift cards for Chaplin’s Modern Times and Kubrick’s Paths of Glory.

Came back from the city a couple days ago with 5 criterions. I found a brand new copy of RAN for 30 bucks! They had about 6 new copies of Ran all for the same price. I also picked up CRONOS (which I’m really excited about), Amarcord, and Pickup on South Street (I don’t know why I bought this, maybe because it’s Fuller and I already have White Dog). I also got Army of Shadows.

I got the von Sternberg collection as a gift and it’s great. The quality is terrific. I’ve only watched Underworld so far, but so good.

The Fugitive Kind
Au Hasard Balthazar
Bigger Than Life (Blu)
Monsoon Wedding (Blu)

Some Amazon seller had all these unopened for less than 50% shipping included. I couldn’t say no. I haven’t seen either of the DVD films yet, so I’m pretty excited.

My Yojimbo/Sanjuro blu rays look fantastic. I’m very impressed. I didn’t know how great a black and white film from the early 60’s could look…

My last 4 Criterion purchases have all been the Night of the Hunter Blu-Ray. I had to return them all in that the incredibly fragile Blu-Ray packaging got beat up in the shipping process. Ordered it twice from Amazon, Barnes and Noble and an independent seller on Amazon Marketplace. I guess I will have to find a local store to purchase it from.

Bought hidden fortress yesterday. I fucking loved it! Is there any news on a reprint for this? The transfer was top notch but it’s lacking on the special features. I don’t know why they didn’t put one of those “It’s wonderful to create” Kurosawa programs. Is anybody else a fan of those. Some kurosawa’s have em others don’t. It’s like CC picks and chooses which releases to put them on.

I stopped buying Criterion when I received In the Mood for Love damaged (from Amazon). I’m overseas, so the shipping was more than the product itself.

Regarding The Hidden Fortress, it is an older Criterion release, pretty close to 100, I think, released when the special features were not as consistent as they tend to be now (though, even still, there are some lesser releases), when merely getting some out there in a decent copy was more important than the supplements. But, yeah, an “It Is Wonderful to Create” (Which was also not included in the earlier Seven Samurai releases, or any of the early Kurosawa releases) for an eventual rerelease of The Hidden Fortress would be cool.

By the way, is there any news about criterion releasing Madadayo? It’s Kurosawa’s last film, you’d think they’d jump on this film right away.
