Broadcast News on Blu ray.
BBS boxset. great stuff. the transfer for Head really surprised me.
Double Life of Veronique on BD
Just started collecting again after selling my collection a while back. Picked up Double Life of Veronique, Vivre Sa Vie, and Pierrot Le Fou(40 bucks on amazon).
Masculin Feminin. Almost complete with my stock of sixties Godard.
I hear Huckabees at Goodwill
Shock Corridor, The Naked Kiss, and Broadcast News at Barnes and Noble thank to the buy 2 get one free sale
Seven Samurai.
Barnes and Nobles are having a buy 2 get one free sale?
as far as i can tell, B &N are having a buy 2 paperbacks get 1 paperback free sale…but this does not apply to criterions. i even googled it. perhaps user marissa knows something we don’t know?
The Third Man on Blu-ray, thanks to my tax refund. Not a blind buy. Worth every penny. Actually enjoyed it more watching it the other night than on any previous viewing.
Will probably buy the Aki Kaurismäki Eclipse set later this week if the price is still at US$24 on Amazon.
@Jardun and @Caligula – B&N had a buy 2 get 1 free sale last month, which included DVDs and Blu-rays. Sale is over now.
I’m torn between HAXAN and the FLOATING WEEDS set. Which should I get?
Chungking Express and Modern Times
Erik, I’d go with Floating Weeds.
Joe, the Aki Kaurismaki set is an excellent choice.
Just bought Broadcast News Blu
Last Year At Marienbad
Fish Tank
I, too, am struggling over whether to buy the Kaurismäki set.
Erik Villasenor: I haven’t seen Haxan, but even imagining that it could be better than the Floating Weeds movies is not currently possible for me.
I haven’t been here for a while so here goes:
BBS BOXSET
REVANCHE
SHOCK CORRIDOR
ANTICHRIST
CRONOS
VIDEODROME
NIGHT OF THE HUNTER
THE SEVENTH SEAL
THE MAGICIAN
PATHS OF GLORY
MODERN TIMES
DAYS OF HEAVEN
I am sure I have missed some too!!
Thanks guys. I went with floating weeds just because I need more Ozu and silent films. I also recently bought Le Cercle Rouge cause I heard it’s going out of print soon, and Rashomon at Borders.
Just picked Ikiru used for a cool $15.
got Last Year at Marienbad today, mainly because I think it’s going out of print soon with it’s 50th anniversary and all, I’m sure studio canals gonna want that shit.
My order from he sale arrived today:
High and Low
Secret Honor
Wise Blood
Naked
I got Ivan’s childhood off the sale
Chungking Express
Cronos
A Film Trilogy by Ingmar Bergman
I bought all of them during that super short 50% off sale on the Criterion website, so it all came to only $75.
I might buy one or two when my dividend check comes in the mail. Perhaps Army of Shadows and/or Vivre Sa Vie. Anyhow, I’m wondering if perhaps criterion rather than netflix is responsible for not carrying many of the recent criterion blu ray releases, because neither blockbuster nor netflix is carrying Army of Shadows, Naked Kiss, Shock Corridor, and Videodrome. Maybe criterion is doing what the studios are doing and not allowing their films to be available for rent until at least a month or two after they get released for sale.
netflix has army of shadows doesn’t it. Not for watch instant though, I don’t know about bluray. But criterion is sort of putting all their internet streaming eggs into one basket (HULU) so I think their relationship with Netflix is a bit strained.
I just bought Videodrome on blu-ray. I’m very excited about this one. One of the best films from my home country of Canada.
A gift - Paths of Glory
Howards End
Insomnia
Viridiana
Breathless
Jules & Jim
Modern Times
Senso
Lola Montes
