Being romantic, I love the charm of the hand-drawn animation (2D can also be done using vector graphics software by the way..). But I am also a technologist, and I can’t be not impressed by the technical complexity of 3D animation. The various techniques used for 3D animation, such as mathematical functions (ex. gravity, particle simulations), simulated fur or hair, effects such as fire and water and the use of Motion capture to name but a few, are unbelievably complex and cool. A toast to PIXAR!

thank you! we are collecting a lot of data and will use collaborative filtering and recommendations when we have enough films & users and the data is statistically significant. searching films based on writers and actors is also a great suggestion; I don’t know why we didn’t think of that before..:)
How awesome was the performance of Tang Wei in Lust, Caution?? Consider that it was her first feature (as an agent working under a second identity to ensnare a dangerous collaborator)!
Yes, it’s true. We announced the deal in our Studio Blog earlier today. You can look forward to watching the entire library of The Weinstein Company on The Auteurs for free. Ohh yeah.
Guys, this is really awesome. The idea behind The Auteurs is to create a gathering place for the world’s most passionate, interested, and sophisticated cinephiles to exchange ideas, tastes, opinions. Allowing you to interact directly with other filmmakers (and your audience), and scout talent for future projects is a big part of this vision. How can we at The Auteurs facilitate this better? We need some ideas!
Friends;
We are fascinated by the great discussion taking place here and wanted to ask you to suggest Section names for The Auteurs. The idea is to innovate on the traditional way we navigate cinema (based on genres like comedy, drama, etc.) and make it more exciting to DISCOVER great cinema.
The sections we currently have (conceived by, you guessed it, dkaz):
Please suggest some section names and films from our library that belong to that list. Use textile to create a link to the films so anyone can read about those films you suggest. Learn how to create a link here.
Rica;
YES! This functionality will be live by Cannes in a couple of weeks. We are going to offer our platform to filmmakers (emerging and established) who would like to exhibit their films on The Auteurs. You will be able to upload your films and show them at a much higher quality (resolution & bitrate) than something like YouTube to a passionate community cinephiles.
I am most excited about Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s film (it’s called Three Monkeys, not Daydreams). Yes, he disappointed us with Climates after the brilliance of Distant, but still.. he’s amazing.
It’s the perfect film. Because you don’t understand or complete the story in the film itself. You complete it in the realm of reflection, experience, and assumptions you made in your own life story.
