About Me

I love movies, particularly foreign, art house and classics. Predictable Hollywood is fine to pass the time of day but it only rarely does it for me – Scorsese, Coppola and Michael Mann shine among others. I have an ever growing collection of classic dvds, but I am constantly perplexed by the fact that many of the classics – Tarkovsky and The Third Man for instance – is still not available in a widescreen dvd format. TV cropped imagery does my head in!!!

Above all I enjoy watching a work of art that looks good and connects with the emotions – a very rare combination these days. I am 49 not that it’s all that important.

I have never seen this film until recently and it really is a 'hidden' gem - amazing photography and, thankfully, limited studio use - typical Ford themes and unusually no big stars, which does kind of disappoint. Still great though.

Yeah, I know what you mean, I'm always going to London to watch the good stuff. A shame we don't have any good cinemas nearby.

Hey, Well, I told you I wasn't a big fan of Pedro Almodovar. Broken embraces was disappointing for me too...very disappointig. Yes, I like some moments of the movie (well, let's say some images from the beach scenes). I'm really angry because of its golden globe nomination!! why??? we have better movies in spain like 'Celda 211' or 'El secreto de sus ojos'. You have to see these two! And about Elegy...it's not definately my fave movie by Isabel Coixet...have you seen my life without me or the secret life of words? That are good movies...

A real revelation. I suppose it can be seen as a cheery update of Obsessione and The Postman rings twice, in the sense that it deals with the old story of infidelity, but in this case there is no hint…  read review

I saw this for the first time recently – Outstanding and well worthy of the arthouse praise frequently heaped upon it. Amazing photography – great use of overhead shots and close ups/ natural lighting…  read review

As I somehow managed to miss seeing this film it was an amazing revelation to see a restored version recently. The multi viewpoint narrative clearly inspires Yimou’s ‘Hero’, and the sparkling black…  read review

well, it looks amazing and the tribute to Tarkovsky is interesting and quite apparent, although T didnt go in for extreme slow motion shots (frankly most film students must realise that this is a cheap…  read review
