About Me

Hello. My name is Steven Adam Renkovish, and I live in the small town of Easley, South Carolina. I am a film student at North Greenville University. I absolutely love anything that has to do with film, as I plan to devote the rest of my life to it. I am also a Christian, however, I loathe “Christian film”, as you can probably see for yourself – check out my favorites list. There are many favorites, for various different reasons. I can’t seem to narrow the list down to a certain number, be it one, or five, or ten. Each film on that list has had a deep effect on me at some point during my life, and so these are the films that I’d recommend to most anyone, excluding my conservative, philistine friends – and since I do live in South Carolina, there are many of those! Bless them. Over the years, I have converted a few of them, and so their taste in film has improved somewhat, and I have to say that I am very proud of myself as far as my influence!

So, in short, I basically live for God and for the arts. As far as I am concerned, the two of those go hand in hand.

Deliverance

Deliverance

To this day, this film is the reason that I refuse to go camping. The seconds-long dream sequence at the end haunted my dreams for about a week. They don't make films like this anymore - slow, meditative, character-driven films, such as this one are seldom seen in mainstream theatres. This is a true work of art. The minimalist score is a plus, and it is creepy as hell.

Hey, I know it has taken me ages to reply - been sorting out my first 1hr feature... anyway, I had a look at your list of films - currently watching 'Whispers and Cries' by Bergman (Loving it!). I am soon to start Uni, will be doing Film studies obviously. Was wondering if you had seen 'Autumn Sonata 'as it is a Bergman classic but I have heard some bad reviews. Anyway, if your interested I have uploaded one of my old short films onto a great website (highly recommended). If its of any interest the link is http://vimeo.com/user2021389. Have you worked with film rather than digital by any chance?

One of the most disturbing films that I have ever seen. There is truth to be found here, unpleasant as it may seem — and Solondz pulls no punches. He forces the ugliness and rot of suburbia out from…  read review

I thought that this film was rather disappointing and gratuitous, and I really like the films of Lars Von Trier, so this was a big let down for me. The genital mutilation scene was completely unecessary…  read review
