i do admire the artistry that goes into a great j-horror film, but i'd also say my wuss-ness is a product of my overactive imagination ('maybe a monster will climb out of **my** tv!!'). when i wrote For Real, For Serious, For Everything i actually scared myself in some spots, despite the story not really being all that scary. i love l'avventura -- it's really one of my favourite films, and a film that adds to the argument of pure art in cinema. i would place it in my 'ambient film' category. it begins with something that resembles a strong, traditional plot, then gradually switches out to something else that resembles a different kind of traditional plot, and from there gradually becomes something much more cosmic. it is an idictment of idle white rich people, and as such there is only one sympathetic character (claudia, as play by monica vitti), which can make it difficult to watch. of course, the structural experimentation can also make it difficult to watch, especially since antonioni (the director) is more concerned with the settings than the people in them (but that is not to say he isn't concerned with the people. antonioni is always filled with contradictions and complementations). well, hopefully this doesn't make you less inclined to watch it. if you do find time for it, i wouldn't mind reading your thoughts. : ] p.s. one of my new favourite features of this site -- since apparently i have email notifications turned on, i receive an email for each comment you sent, with that comment in the email. so when you delete a comment to make a slight change to the grammar of your text, i get to see that change! i find it creepily fascinating in a way, to see a concrete example of what goes through someone's mind when changing text. i guess this means the site just needs an Edit option. it also makes me think there should be a text program kind of like an oekaki program which has the option to show an animation of the art/story/text as it is being made. time to round up some programmers. p.p.s. i've had a copy of snake of june floating around my place for a few years. think i should finally watch it?

i always say that my two favourite film genres are Godard and Ambient. i'm afraid i'm too much of a wuss for J-Horror and Gore films. : [ even something as tame as the original Ring will keep me up for nights.
