RIOT! over 2 years ago

My friend showed me the riot in Last Exit To Brooklyn then I saw this! I haven’t seen Day of the Locusts but the riot in this, how it all starts with a bag of flower reverberated through my heart and made the blood pulse through my veins.

Endings that "Rape your soul" over 2 years ago

Maybe Requiem for a Dream, just because everyone in that gets a pretty bad doing over, but it doesn’t quite cut it. Old Boy was sort of a ‘raping of the soul’ but I don’t know… Maybe the ending of Kids, what’s Casper say again?

By the way, the original version of Vanilla Sky, “Open your eyes”, last words, love that ending.

Film Theory over 2 years ago

Hitchcock Truffaut, is an awesome book. Conversations with Walter Murch by Michael Ondantte is alright. Masters of light, notes on the cinematographer by Robert Bresson is easy to read. Gogard on godard is just most of his essays, its pretty interesting if you find a good article, same with hitchcock on hitchcock. I haven’t read Andre Bazin, i really want to now. Graham Greene also wrote lots of reviews.

The Future Is In 3D over 2 years ago

I reckon that since a lot of the lower end live-action 3D films, not Avatar, which seems to be the only high end one have done it because they can now shoot on cheap affordable digital camera, a la RED, which are shit and no one can afford to shoot dual 35mm or no one will back them, unless they are James Cameron. Who knows, if Avatar is huge maybe peter and george and steven, who will probably be the only people who can afford and have the interest and knowledge to pull of such a production again, since avatar is meant to be one of the most expensive films ever made. Other than that, 3D animation will always be able to utilise it cos they don’t need to spend the extra money to get a dual camera rig and afford the film going through it.
And imax seem to only have interest in 1hr doco’s and its only the exciting ones that get filmed in 3D, and that’s usually for the parts with actors, like t-rex, which shit, how many years ago was that, was the last 3D film i’ve seen, possibly the only one. i’ve always wanted to go see up, and stuff but i just cant afford it. i like my ten dollar films, i’ll still ask for a concession until they ask for my concession card. i will fork out and see avatar but.

Has anyone seen Van Diemen’s Land over 2 years ago

Yeah, saw it at syd film fest than projected it at chauvel so got a chance to watch it over and over again. good photography, although HD looks pretty doge, may have just been the transfer, also wiped all the colours out of it which makes a real cool look to it, but i think adds too much pressure to the resolution of HD, good HD but, F35’s.
really good sound, i think they put a lot into that aspect in post, the trailer for it is heaps mad too. director and cast talked about it after film fest screening. the actor is an aussie and went to ireland for some time in order to learn and practise his dialect stuff, you know, the stuff in subtitles.
thought its really well written too, they made a short before it called hells gates i think which gave them an idea how to do the full production.
all in all, a really really good production, considering its what maybe 1.5 million. just like balibo, on a tiny budget compared to international product and making a really decent thing out of it.
worth viewing if you like hard-hitting true stories about people in pretty atrocious circumstances. but really cool sound effects of people getting battered and sauced up, and then bubbling away it a tiny billy and carried round in sacks and getting their throats cut so they can be let bled. not in that order but. its cool.
