haha, love that
Watched this with a mate from Germany and was good to have a commentary about the "once upon a time..." premise that was happening the year he and I were born!
just getting back into my cinema and watching a film with Rachel McAdams helps (it was State of Play)
I agree that this is firmly in the classic, but i wouldn't say it doesn't hold up. I haven't seen Dassin's other films except Rififi but this film is exceptional. Everything about it stands the test of time. It's rendition of the time and place won't ever be re-created and it was created so well when it was. You can't go past this for all the things mentioned before - and movies won't ever do it quite like it again.
One of the best high speed shots when Patricia Arquette gets out of the Cadillac and the fluros are slightly off shutter and that rockabilly tune plays. Perfectly photographed, timed, a beautiful woman in slo mo. I can't get this and the slo mo shot from Casino Royale with Ursula Andress and the Dusty Springfield tune and Peter Sellers can't believe where he's at out of my head.
I've not seen any of his films, I really want to, but his book On Filmmaking is wonderful. C'est formidable Mr Mackendrick!
Shit, that's Khondji with a RED and master primes.
Can't be correct, the film goes for longer than 75 min! This film is great. I really enjoyed it and Ludavine is sensational and in the movie she's really good too. It's the only Claude Chabrol film I've seen. I really want to see some of his older school films.
Halloween double. This and Flesh for Frankenstein. I really liked the women's dialogue in this film. And how it was so euro.
Just saw Moon tonight. I liked it, I thought maybe I wasn't liking the direction it was going in and it was so special-effects heavy but then it ended up being a pretty sweet film. The cinema I was in pumped up the jam too.
I have to project this film and i always have to change it over at the bit where he's like "OK, I do not translate, I do not with to be a burden" and the guys "you're always welcome here, you know that." and then he gets a message and he's like "It's Lilly! Meet me at the pub. You know which one" and bam! switch!
This and the first film are shit. Steven Soderbergh is a shit cinematographer. And he is a north american so I don't know why he makes this film.
As if Patricia Arquette doesn't make this movie!
I love Midnight Express, saw that film when I was a kid and thought it blew me away.
