I enjoy reading your film comments. Just curious about your thoughts on 'Gulaal'. I definitely agree, the film greatly benefits because of Piyush Mishra's iconic role and his musical talents. However, Kashyap has also mentioned it is a film he wanted to make either before or right after 'Black Friday'. So he worked on it for nearly 6-7 years, and finally completed it after all the progressive studio's backing out on him.Courtesy of his "debut". Paanch will hopefully see a release date soon.

I have something of a love-hate relationship with Kashyap's work. (The only film I unabashedly love is Black Friday, all the others keep shifting.) Gulaal is one of the few films dealing with college politics that feel real - Tigmanshu Dhulia's Haasil its predecessor - even though Kashyap decides to give more importance to plot over texture in the final run (the finale is obvious designer despair). I like it on the whole though, because there are also enough interesting digressions.

Paanch is nothing extraordinary, unfortunately. Mostly adolescent fantasies of "darkness" and violence.

I still haven't seen Paanch. I know there's a preview copy torrent out there. Kashyap probably released it himself.
