“Everybody hates Tom Cruise”.Really? If that is so,could it be because of his early huge success?.
I am a fan and think the “Mission Impossible”series great entertainment. But,his best performance was in “Collateral” where he worked so well with Jaime Foxx.
Rob Roy was a great movie that did get positive reviews on release.Such chemistry between Liam Neeson and Jessica Lange, and
Tim Roth did get an Oscar nomination.
“Best Worst Films”? I’m not sure i get that.Recently i saw 2 very, very bad films On Demand.
“Body Of Evidence” and “Suspect”.Madonna was terrible in the former and,in the latter Cher gave perhaps the worst performance i’ve ever seen by an actress.Lawyers are supposed to be smart.
Must say i do look forward to trailers, even of films i’m not really interested in.Guess its because i just love films. After all,its just a matter of a few minutes and,as Bruce said, some are better than the films themselves.
A great director’s films are about characters and that makes Sidney Lumet one of the best.Look at the amazing performances we have seen over the years.Could anyone else have made ‘Dog Day Afternoon’?
Then there is the ensemble of ‘Murder On The Orient Express’.And to think that just 3 years ago he gave us great performances from Philip Seymour Hoffman and Ethan Hawke in ‘Before The Devil Knows…’
Mike Leigh——-High Hopes
Stephen Frears——-The Grifters
Ang Lee—————Brokeback Mountain
Costa Gavras——State Of Siege
Neil Jordan————The Crying Game
Mike Newell——-Donnie Brasco
Walter Salles———Central Station
Peter Weir———-Picnic At Hanging Rock
NATHAN W posted an interesting list with some brilliant films.‘Dr Strangelove’ should be declared the best dark comedy of all time.
Funny,i had not thought of ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ as a dark comedy but,of course,it does qualify for the touching and funny way it handled serious issues.
Speaking of remakes, just saw the trailer for ‘Death At A Funeral’,directed by Neil LaBute. With Chris Rock and Danny Glover.Good cast, but WHY ?
The original was kind of funny, not great.Plus wasn’t it released just 2 years ago?
‘Green Zone’—-9/10.—-Will please fans of action films, and those who care about the politics.
And,there is Matt Damon! So great at keeping the audience involved in every scene.
Not the most violent (will need to think more about that),but the impact of ‘Chopper’ was quite profound.Mainly due to Eric Bana’s great performance and fact that it’s a true story.
I agree,it is an excellent film and should be included in FILMS.
A heartbreaking look at another outcome of Argentina’s 1976-1983 Dirty War and “los desaparecidos”,on the need to know the truth and how it changes one’s world.
