Tx. for info. Tom.
In May 1971 Nicholas Ray spoke about his films at Harpur College of the State University of New York at Binghamton. The lecture went so well that he was offered a job as a Professor of Cinema. Nick believed that the only way to teach filmmaking was by making a film with his students. The result of this experience was a feature called "We Can't Go Home Again," which premiered in the Cannes Film Festival in May 1973.
I was there when the above photo of Nick Ray was taken in 1971. Nick was directing me in a scene for the film "We Can't Go Home Again" at the State University of New York at Binghamton by showing me how I might play the scene. I was a student actor who did not understand what he was getting at. We made this film at the university from September 1971 until May 1973 when a version of our experiences premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. I will write about this film in greater detail in another form. Nick Ray was an intense individual.
