Which Director Would You Want As Your Father almost 3 years ago

I wouldn’t change my father… but if I had to…I would have Pedro Almodovar.I think he would be open-minded about the things children (then becoming adults) go through in their lives.

What sets Stanley apart from the others? almost 3 years ago

The fact that he never did just one type of film. He always went for something that he liked and it didn’t matter what genre it was. He alway put his time in it all, giving and getting every ounce of excellence. He went for the art of film and not for the succes of a blockbuster. His films are and alway will be thought provoking. This is what set him apart from the other… even the greats. His films are his own breed.

How important is a perfect image quality for cinephiles? over 2 years ago

I think if you really want to see the picture then you see it. Even if it’s in poor quality, if that’s the only way to see it then why let that stop you? For me it all depends on if I can’t find a copy that any better, if not… then I do with what I have!

Any suggestions on introducing myself with Silent Pictures. over 2 years ago

I have just seen recently Metropolis and The Cabinet of Dr.Caligari. I must say that I have fallen in love with Silent picture, now I’m looking for more pictures from that era… either horrors (like nosferatu) or comedy (chaplin) drama etc etc. The point is that I’d like some the film buffs on this site to please recommend some pictures! Thanks much appreciated. -Patricia

Your most hated 'Oscar Bait' films over 2 years ago

How can anyone hate Forrest Gump?? It was well made and Tom Hanks did a very damn good job! I’d like to see anyone of you try to make a picture to the standard of Forrest Gump… let alone dislike the picture…
Yes it is a “main stream” movie that is well made (it gives you some hope that hollywood can make a high quality picture if it chooses to) but it’s still pretty damn good… and it gives the “normal” audience a chance to realize that there are important films to be made and watched… All I’m saying is that some of you people are a little to harsh on Forrest Gump.

BUT THEN again… Which main stream movie isn’t pimped out if it’s well made? I think that’s the point of main stream pictures….. All in all you all have a point…. (hence… Juno).

The Polanski Debate over 2 years ago

Yes, because they are most likely to have “heavy influences” (upper hand) on what may seem a normal trial. I’m sure if a regular person would have pled guilty of rape to a 13 year old girl and before his sentence, he lefted the country. There would have been a bigger issue and, I’m also sure there would have been some type of actually public manhunt. Also it would have been a hell of a lot harder to forget what happen let alone FORGET and FORGIVE the man who did it. Why run if you are not guilty? Why Plea guilty? I don’t understand…. (shaking head)

people on autuers are good critic but film makers no over 2 years ago

I believe that each kind of film that was ever made did something for the viewer. That is why it was remembered or forgotten. That is the beauty of film, that it can reach to all kind of individuals or to the mases. It all gives something to someone. Either by giving hope, faith, love, truth, inspiration, warmth, a headache, laughter, sadness or anger. They all give an image of life or of a dream, they can also give you something to escape from; only if it is for a few hours, or it can educate and open your mind. There is also art in mainstream movies just like an art house film… it is called entertainment. I don’t think that that should go under valued just because it’s mainstream/popular. There are many forms of entertainment in every kind of films. Just like there are masters directors in every kind of genres, some are more talented at their own ideas/stories, while there are other talented directors who know what the mases what to see. Isn’t that what film is and should be?

How Much Do People Hate Going to movies with Mainstream Audiences? over 2 years ago

I hate people who turn to their cell phones and check it or start to text. People who kick the chair or who talk pretty damn loud, they seem to forget that they are supposed to shut the hell up. I think if they start to clap thats a good thing, at least they show that they seemed to have gotten lost in the story. I hate haveing crappy sits though…

What is up with the name change? Likes…. Dislikes please comment!

I personally don’t like it… Mubi… just doesn’t have the same meaning for me.

I can understand the reason for why the name changed but I still for some reason find it misleading (I think does it have to do with cell phones or something….)

Black Swan VS The Wrestler over 1 year ago

I didn’t like the ending from The Wrestler, I perfer Black Swan. It just had more of a put together “feel” for me then The Wrestler. I was left thinking “What now?” when I saw The Wrestler. Though they are both pretty good films all in all. I just feel like Black Swan didn’t make me feel like I had watched a half finshed story, I was lefted wanting more from The Wrestler, either by him getting better, falling in love, changing (etc) or by dying and self destructing (etc) what ever the turn out may be. But I guess it was more realistic with its ending, but I just felt that Black Swan was better and interesting for me to watch, it grabbed me from the start with the dancing and beauty etc… Who knows?
