Amazing with a capital A!!!!
Representing Georgia in the 2012 WC cup
I have just seen this amazing film. What a landmark in African cinema. This was the first film from Africa directed by a woman, and is very much the equal any film made by her more illustrious colleagues such as Sembene, Cisse or Mambety. This film represents the real spirit of "third cinema", a new world voice exposing the disparity between the rich and poor and the byproduct of violence and terror. Superb!!
I will have this film uploaded for people to see in a few weeks. his is a great unseen film. Remisniscent of Fassbinder with absurdist over the top performances and a lot of pussy (I mean cats don't get too excited!!).
A great fun low budget film. The Uk should be making more like this!!!
A beautifully understated film with a sensitive performance from Brenda Fricker
Changed:)
The first film from Malawi to be added onto the Mubi database.

Madagascar's first animated films. Watch this YT clip for an interview from the brother directors and to see a preview of their work. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tj8znYJlTt4
Ok this director's filmography is complete. Tewfik Saleh must be in the running for the most forgotten important auteur in cinema.
TRIVIA Saddam Kamel who portrayed Saddam Hussein was later ordered to be murdered by the dictator himself.
Note the Message and Al-Risalah are two different films, the same story, crew, script and film shots, but filmed with a different cast. Western actors and Arabic actors
The arabic version with different actors can be found here - http://mubi.com/films/al-risalah
Note this is not the same film as the Message starring Anthony Quinn. Both films are directed by Akkad simultaneously one with Western actors to appeal to a European audience and one with Arabic actors to appeal to the Islam world.
One of the best Egyptian films out there available to watch. This Hitchcockian thriler has great acting and some special camera mvements that the great master would be proud of.
This could have been a great film, but slowly loses its way and the ending is far to rushed. Still Hind Rostom steals the show from her male counterparts notably Omar Sharif as the feisty double crossing diva.
I hope my submissions will soon appear in their entire form. Chahine's filmography deserves to be complete!!
At last this masterpiece appears on the database. This film is a true hidden gem and the crowning achievement of Arabic cinema.
One of the classic U.S indie films of the 90's and a real gateway for me to discover a new type of cinema. Love it!
One of the best over the top cinematic delights from Egypt. Salah Abouseif is truly an important filmmaker and I hope he gets the attention he deserves some time in the future.
This film alongside other Maldoror's works was shown in London in Febuary. So annoyed that I missed it!!! If anyone knows how I can watch her work subs/no subs pls message me!!!
This starts at as a dark deadpan type comedy and reminded me of Whisky and also Battle In Heaven and then transcends into something completely unexpected. One of the most enigmatic thought provoking climaxes to a film I have seen this year. Outstanding!
A simple story elegantly and beautifully filmed in a style that none other than Sokurov can create. One of his early works but also one of his best.
Is there a more uncompromising director than Nolot working today? Porn Theatre is a devastating, brutally explicit film. Behind the debauchery and sexual promiscuity are lonely characters wondering what might have been...
One of the best films I have seen this year. This unknown masterpiece should be seen by every lover of cinema.
