The Wages of Fear

The best scenes of the movie occur after the drivers start moving the nitroglycerin in trucks. You know its a movie, you know these are actors, but you forget. Watching this on my laptop, I literally pushed the computer away at places, not wanting to be too close if there was an explosion. This movie could have been perfect with a little more time in the editing room, but I still enjoyed the ulcer that it gave me.

Taste of Cherry

I agree with Dean, at first I was concerned that the pacing was going to be an issue with this film, but it was not! I loved the camera-work, and once a certain character appeared and started talking, I was buckled in and enjoying the ride that turned from good to great. To me, the movie revolved around said character, and not the outcome of the film, which I also enjoyed. Tried to say all that without spoilers.

Crazy Heart

Jeff Bridges doesn't act, he lives his role as Bad Blake. Maggie Gyllenhaal is great too. I thought the pacing was a little slow in the beginning, but it certainly wasn't a show-stopper. Things pick up in the second half though. Robert Duvall also is good in a supporting role. I'm not sure why the average here is 3/5 stars, should at least be 4. My vote: 4.5 stars.

Crazy Heart

Just not my cup of tea. I couldn't get past the first 30 minutes. I didn't like the images of the dead horse, and the dream-like visual imagery wasn't enough to keep my interest.

Away We Go

Don't watch this broken film. You'll have to sit through about 25 minutes to get to the first laugh, and after that they are few and far between. The music is overdone and is not choreographed well with the actual film. Maya Rudolph isn't funny at all, but some of the supporting cast have some good lines. I love John Krasinski in The Office, and although there are moments of good humor, he can't save this movie.

L.A. Confidential

I loved every minute of this movie. Why did I wait so long to watch it?!!!!! Instant classic. Intelligent, deep, surprising, everything you could possibly want from a cop/crime movie.

Iron Man 2

I wish we could give half stars because I would rate this 3 and a half.

Star Trek

There was much to like and much to dislike about this film. I thought that the choice of actors to play the young Enterprise crew was great, and I could relate to all of them as authentic. That said, I think the script left a lot to be desired and should have been edited a few more times. I don't expect total realism from a Trek film, but I really hate when I'm watching a movie and something so far fetched happens that it makes you remember that you are watching a movie. I'll give 2 examples: -Scotty shooting through the water cooling tubes. -Kirk making what seemed like a 100 foot jump in his battle with the Romulan. And speaking of Romulans, I wasn't crazy about the main bad guy. He was certainly no Khan, which reminds me of another scene that bothered me: the bug creatures that make you tell the truth. That was shamelessly stolen from Star Trek II. Summary: Not a great plot, not a great script, good choice of actors, and good special effects. Enjoyable, but could have been so much better.

Citizen Kane

Perhaps the most overrated movie ever, this film did nothing for me. I could not make it through the first hour. I never found out who or what rosebud is, and I probably never will.

Citizen Kane

Gotta agree with Sudhang below. In 3 sentences he summed up exactly how I felt about the film. Maybe though, this is one of those movies you have to watch more than once to appreciate. We'll see.

Nowhere in Africa

Not forgettable at all. A deep, moving, movie set in beautiful Kenya with very good acting. It was very easy to see why this movie won the Oscar for best foreign film of the year.

Nowhere in Africa

I disagree with ya there Phil. I saw this movie for the first time and loved it, and I'll watch plenty of independent films. And if someone only wants to sit through a couple, I would recommend this one as one of those couples.

Fight Club

Definitely not what I expected. This movie was OK but I think it is overrated. I don't think I laughed once, maybe a small grin here and there. 7 out of 10.
