I see you gave REPULSION 4 stars. When I watched it, it just made me so angry. I concede that it's well made, but I thought Catherine Devenue's performance was so annoying and her character so poorly written, it made me so made. I couldn't handle it. Characters like that are so frustrating as a film viewer.
Yeah, I actually really liked it. It's such an archetypal psychological thriller, I couldn't help but love it. Also, the way it bridges the gap between European art cinema and genre (horror).
Why did you watch WEEKEND AT BERNIE'S and MAC AND ME? Are you still Anders or did something go wrong?
Haha. My friend Justin put together a "Bernie Mac" night because they are so notoriously bad. Unfortunately they were so bad that the whole thing has me swearing off gag movie nights. Life is too short. WEEKEND AT BERNIE'S reminded me of everything I don't like about 80s comedies, but it's not the worst movie I've ever seen. MAC AND ME reaches new lows of derivative, incompetent, and boring. It was partly funded by McDonalds! Ronald McDonald introduces the trailer! It's just...I don't even know what to say.
There's a lot to like about the film, but the ending almost ruined it for me (in contrast to say A SERIOUS MAN or MELANCHOLIA). THe rest of the film didn't fit. Michael Shannon though, the guy is fantastic.
