Kasumi’s experimental films and videoart have screened worldwide: from Lincoln Center with The New York Philharmonic to live VJ shows with Grandmaster Flash and DJ Spooky. She was featured artist at Württembergischen Kunstverein Stuttgart and at the Chroma Festival de Arte Audiovisual, Guadalajara, and her film, BREAKDOWN, which premiered at Carnegie Hall with the American Composers Orchestra, won Vimeo’s Best Remix award 2010. She was awarded an EMPAC Dance Movies Commission and has created videoart for performance with The Cleveland Orchestra. Her film “The Free Speech Zone,” cited in The Encyclopedia of Underground Movies, was featured at the Forum des Images in Paris, the Milano Film Festival, Expresión en Corto, Mexico City, and the Sapporo International Short Film Festival where it won First Prize.
Kasumi is also a musician who has performed twice at Carnegie Hall and who has recorded four LP albums; a theatrical production designer, and a published author. While in Japan, her soundtrack performance of Oginsama, starring Toshiro Mifune, was nominated for an Academy award and she co-wrote two scripts with the late Pat Morita, of Karate Kid fame.
