25th Hour

I can't believe I've missed out on this film for all these years... anybody ever again asks me what Spike Lee joint they should see, I'm saying 25th Hour. Brilliant ensemble, poignant story, top-notch acting from all involved. I was surprised by just how much sympathy I had for the guy by the end. I think Lee did a nice job illustrating how small wrong turns can lead to big wrong turns derail a life before it's realized. I think it's one of Lee's most touching films, it will inspire you to take stock and think "What have I done? If I only had 24 hours left, what would I be proud of or what would I regret?"

The Hurt Locker

One of my favorite things about The Hurt Locker is that the "big name" actors in it are there specifically as accents and color... not to distract from the experience of the story, which is in the capable hands of the leads.

Away We Go

I was so afraid I was gonna be subjected to a mid-thirties nick and Norah. I was pleasantly surprised at this relatively understated masterpiece. Thank you Eggers, Mendez et al.

Away We Go

When you were 10, did you care abut the acting, the plot, the script, logic? Neither did I. Michael Bay brings out the 10 year old in me. Probably because he thinks like one. If you're looking for anything more than giant robots blowing stuff up, why bother?

Drag Me to Hell

It was good. Raimi puts on a spectacular show in his natural element. Even if it fell prey to predictability towards the end. I wish I had more to add to the other reviews. It's pretty much just great. Should've been called Evil Dead 4. Raimi uses his bigger budgets and years of experience in the bigger leagues to take what he's GREAT at and make it even better.
