Beautiful. My older brother is mentally challenged and watching DiCaprio's incredible performance and the relationship between him and Depp had me in tears.
This is a good film. It's not the greatest thing in the world, but it is good. The racial tension in everyone is way over done. This stereotypes a lot of races, such as Asians can't speak English, White people hate Black people, and Black people are all automatically associated with Africa. I wasn't impressed over all. Spike Lee is a good director, actor, and writer, but this is not something I would call ground-breaking.
Hilarious and original. Some moments don't appeal to me, but those that do make the film worth watching. I can't imagine what making a film is really like but this certainly helped paint an interesting if not humorous picture. Great cast, great script, great directing. 4 stars easily.
Watched it today on Turner Classic Movies. The best Spencer Tracy movie I've ever seen, even more so that Guess Who's Coming to Dinner or Boy's Town.
My favorite of all Scorsese films and perhaps of all Sports films ever made. Between De Niro's powerful method acting to the cinematography used in the film, this is an absolute treasure.
This was funny, but not worth of a Golden Globe. I was appalled at the amount of crude humor in it. It was funny, don't get me wrong. It tore me in half the first time I saw it. The second time I chuckled at the different parts. The third time I smiled at most. It's just not one of those films you can watch over and over again and expect the same level of entertainment as before.
This is a good film that has been sadly snubbed at the numerous award ceremonies it has gone to. I loved it and George Clooney definitely gave an incredible performance worth of an Oscar.
I love this movie, but felt rather disappointed. Due to this being released following the Communism scare and blacklisting, the film was greatly changed from the book as the book bashed the government's involvement, or lack there of, during the Depression and the Dust Bowl. Events are out of order to make the government look better than it was. I would like to see this remade with a more faithful adaptation.
Having seen how divorce affects people, this film didn't appeal to me all that well. I was rather taken back by it and paused it several times to try and understand what was going on. The son masturbating and spreading his sperm all over the library books was incredibly disturbing. Yes, it made sense, but it was still disturbing. Margo at the Wedding is much better.
This film gave such a poor portrayal of the milestone that is Harvey Milk. He did quite a bit to help change politics around the world, not just in San Francisco or the United States. I was repulsed when I saw this movie and how it made him out to be just "another gay man" rather than the elite political figure he was. to quote my good friend who is gay: "I liked Philadelphia better. This was like a gay porno."
Loved this film. Steve Martin really breaks away from his stereotypical "Wild-And-Crazy-Guy" humor and definitely achieves a new level of acting. It would be wonderful if he could win Best Supporting Actor, but he's in some steep competition against Stanley Tucci and the others sure to be nominated. Understand this is a middle-aged romantic comedy, not a film destined to change everything out there.
This film was painful to watch. I cringed through a lot of it, especially the parts with Mo'Nique. She knew what she was doing in her role as a "terrible" mother. I was a little let down by the ending, which I will leave up to you. Unfortunately, due to the history of the Oscars, this film doesn't have a good chance at Best Picture, but I'm sure it can win many of the others. DEFINITELY a good film.
At the expense of the story line, James Cameron has officially changed the way films will be made from here on. 100% CGI, the film will move from what we know now as "movies" and introduce a new generation to a higher level of film making. Unfortunately, the storyline was sacrificed to make way for the phenomenal vision. I would like to say this is my generations "Star Wars", but SW changed culture as well as film.
Very creative character actor. Love watching him on the big screen.
Despite some horrible reviews, Beyond the Sea, in which he portrays the legendary Bobby Darin, is one of my favorite Kevin Spacey films. My favorite film with him in it is A Bug's Life in which he breaks out of the 100% dark villainous character and has a great sense of humor. (Especially during the "bloopers" at the end.)
One of my favorite films. Though profanity is prominent throughout the film, it is still creative and had me confused the first time. First time I saw it was on TV, which certainly ruined the experience since so much had to be cut out of the film. When I bought it I was very pleased with it. True, the surprise ending has been used before but I didn't watch it and search for the surprise. I just watched it and was caught off-guard. Five Stars easily.
It was okay, but not the best things I've ever seen. The casting was beauty and well done and the story was original. After that, it kind of went downhill. I was entertained, but that's all. It didn't leave me wanting to watch it again and again as I hoped it would. It's not a film I will knock people out of my way to buy when it comes out but, assuming there's nothing else to watch, I'm willing to buy it. Kevin Spacey does a great job breaking out of his villain/dark characters and plays a more humorous character. (And does a bang up job.) Could be worse, though.
Funny and original, the creators of "Wallace & Gromit" certainly hit one out of the park with this one. Highly recommend it, whether you're 5 or 105.
Beautifully done with a great story and dialogue, this is one of Walt Disney's best films. While not in comparison to some, such as his "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" or "Pinocchio", it's still a memorable story and I highly recommend it.
What I love about this is their dedication. These are guys who can never walk again and yet they don't let that stop them. 100% amazing and I highly recommend it for your collection.
An incredible movie and definitely one of my favorites. Morgan Freeman nails his role as a southern, black chauffeur for "Miss Daisy." My favorite performance, however, is that of Dan Aykroyd. This is by far his best movie ever. I watched him in this and people I knew came to mind, right down to the accent and looks. This is a MUST for any collection and one you MUST see.
Being a fan of the Mel Gibson type blood and gore, this movie was a letdown. Filmed in the style to help reflect the movies origins as a graphic novel, very little of the film looked real. Due to the cinematography, I recommend adding this to your collection of movies. Be aware that it is not something I would carry due to my preferences in war movies, but it's still worth checking out.
Who would have thought 2 time Academy Award Winner Marlon Brando (On the Waterfront, The Godfather), known for his tough guy persona as well as his off-camera temper, would turn out to be a great singer and dancer. An absolute for all collections.
I saw this movie when I was thirteen years old and it scared me beyond belief. Being as immature as I was, I grew up thinking it was a true story. When I learned it wasn't, I appreciated it more because it was able to give off that sort of feeling. The massive amount of profanity was a little much for me, but still a great movie. I HIGHLY recommend this for anyone.
This was nasty. I think Baron Cohen pushed it juuuust a little. I've no problem with people being gay. This movie was 100% stereotypical in my opinion. I've several friends who are gay and they are NOTHING like this. Don't go see it. It's a waste of money, especially when compared to a movie like Borat.
While this is no where near James Stewart's best film, it is a decent western film. My recommendation is to borrow or rent it. I watch it when it comes on Turner Classic Movies (c) but it's not something I plan on adding to my collection.
This is definitely an original film and Will Ferrell's best yet. It shows he is capable of more than bizarre, screwball and often perverse comedies. As an English major, it's also easy to spot all the subtle Literary remarks that only English, Literary, or Creative Writing majors would get. I highly recommend it!
Grand scale sets, incredible costumes, and epic scenery, William Wyler's classic film "Ben-Hur" is a MUST for a movie collection and an absolute must see for people of all ages.
Hilarious and oh so true, When Harry Met Sally is a classic romantic comedy that shows the true side of both men and women. This is an ESSENTIAL movie for your collection. Funny and classy, it also features one of the funniest scenes in movie history: the fake orgasm. Bizarre humor like that makes any guy question how good he is in bed.
Despite not following the book very well (in the book, Hanna is older and heavy set rather than the Kate Winslet figure and her illiteracy isn't as easy to spot as it is in the movie), this is a very good movie. I highly recommend it for ANY collection.
