Howl was a let down. I really had no interest in seeing the film to begin with. Animated sequences sucked pretty hard. James Franco was not at his best by any means.
I have not seen "A Snake of June," although it is on my longer-than-infinity too-see list. I've only seen the first "Tetsuo," "Vital," and "Nightmare Detective." I really like "Tetsuo," I didn't like "Vital" when I saw it (I think it's time for a revisiting, though), and "Nightmare Detective" is a bit dense with all of the eastern symbolism in it, some of which is really hard to make heads or tails of, and it makes the whole thing seem like more of a mess than it probably is. Miike's great, too, but he makes so many fucking movies it's hard to keep up with him. I'm sure your aware of the old stand-bys: "Audition," "Gozu," Ichi the Killer," "One Missed Call," "Zebraman," the "Dead or Alive" trilogy, etc. I hear "Sukiyaki Western Django" is great, and "Izo" is a really fucked up watch, if one of his lesser works.
i have been to nashville and mephis a few times. driving through tennessee there's a lot of really nice water towers, too. graceland is kind of a disappointment, though, after all that paul simon hype.
