Tobey Maguire carries this film. He skillfully pulled off some incredibly intense scenes that made me forget I was watching a movie. The chemistry between Natalie Portman and Jake Gyllenhaal was unfortunately lacking and the "back at home" storyline didn't seem to find it's comfort zone. Could have been better, but is very watchable mainly because Maquire's performance is so good.
ALL horror flicks are cheesy. The horror genre doesn't even play in the same neighborhood as award-worthy films do. Scary movies exist for 2 reasons: 1: to scare the crap out of the viewer so 2: the movie makes money. Mission accomplished. True - there was nothing remotely intellectual going on here. But who expects filet mignon when you open a bag of chips?
I give this movie 1 star...and that's only because it suckered me out of the cost of a ticket and popcorn.
I'm glad to know that in spite of the billions made by this film, that I'm not the only one disappointed by it. Avatar's huge potential for real greatness was squandered away on cheesy plot lines & mediocre acting. I, for one, wasn't blown away by Avatar.
Every cheesy Hollywood cliche starred in this movie several times over. Some of the 'other world' scenes were a nice break from the monotony (and the awful green screen low tech scenes), but also left me wondering why the rest of the movie wasn't better. Bleck.
Obviously done with a great passion for photography - beautiful work. Ebru Cylan obviously knows what he's doing behind the lens both as photographer and cinematographer. The story was good, but some scenes lingered on much longer than necessary making a painful story even more painful. This movie was a visual tasty morsel and a lesson in patience.
This movie is its own brand of unique hilarious humor...like anyone can even know that...
I love the mechanics of this movie. I will never get tired of watching it. Excellent cast, the soundtrack is dead on. Well done - period.
I'll say it - I liked this movie even if Troy Duffy is a raging asshole. Not an award winner by any means but entertaining as Hell.
Well done, touching story. The relationship between father and daughter was played brilliantly. I am now in love with Alex Descas...
