The director was born in 1908. I certainly want to see this.
Just saw this and loved it. What a two-person crew can do cannot be achieved by 200. It's the intimacy, the naturalness, and the no-excuses attitude that make this drama real, almost like a documentary. The cinematography is superior but what I liked best about the film was the use of native instruments in a minimal way and an overall profusion of sound sensations.
It's a great film that should get more air time--there's so much to talk about -- Israeli-Arab-German-Gay-Environmentalist-Mossad-Nazi-Redemption. It's aesthetically pleasing and great mix of aggressive macho and an accepting, tolerant outlook toward one's human compatriots.
does anyone know when the DVD is going to be released?
do you know when this comes out on DVD in the US?
A masterpiece. I also love Sweetie and can't wait to see Bright Star.
Out of the three, I really like RED the best, but Blue is great for the way it uses color out of all of them.
It's my favorite movie of all times. It stirs up everything inside that takes a long time to settle down afterward.
Den Goda Viljan, or the Best Intentions, based on the screenplay by Ingmar Bergman about his parents' first decade of knowing each other and living together, is one of my all-time favorite films. No, it's not a BERGMAN, but you can't escape his screenplay (the dialogs for the roles of Liv Ullmann and Samuel Frohler are superb) and it's really nice to see a different treqtment for his writing. The films that Liv Ullman has directed are closely wedded and loyal to Bergman himself. Bille August did a great job and while he earned a Palme d'Or for the film, this is not enough. THis film needs more recognition.
In the last three weeks I have seen a LOT of Bergman films.. Saraband (2003) (TV) Autumn Sonata (1978) The Serpent’s Egg (1977) The Magic Flute (1975) (TV) Scenes from a Marriage (1973) Cries and Whispers (1972) The Passion of Anna (1969) Shame (1968) Hour of the Wolf (1968) Persona (1966) All These Women (1964) The Silence (1963) Through a Glass Darkly (1961) The Virgin Spring (1960) The Magician (1958) Wild Strawberries (1957) The Seventh Seal (1957) Smiles of a Summer Night (1955) Secrets of Women (1952) and also Best Intentions Faithless Sunday's Children Private Confessions for which he wrote the screenplay,... I love them all because I see the development, the growth, the life story, if you will, of his work. I would really like to see Criterion Collection remaster and re release Best Intentions. It's a great film and hard to find. I have my VHS version, but have a hard time finding any details behind the scenes, the backstory...
