Josh- not original artwork, just a heavily modified version of the Polish movie poster (which is in full color), and the stars are from the American poster.
anyway, this thread has envigorated me to fantasize. Here’s one I made before, which some had seen.
Casanova is Fellini’s true masterpiece. Maybe not now, maybe not in twenty years, but it will slowly rise to the front as the most unusual and enigmatic of Fellini’s nebulous later work.
Perhaps this is something already explored on here, but what I’m interested in is, of these sorts of picutures, what are some that struck you, regardless of content and the like, as still original, maybe artful, at the very least, intriguing.
Maybe this ties in with Tarantino’s new film, which can appear to be like an Italian exploitation film, except it’s not really. Also, GRINDHOUSE. Is it entirely succesful in channeling this view on what is considered “Z-cinema”?
(maybe throw in some video nasties too. What about them? Can they, too, find a way to Criterion through their sheer force of will and shock factor?)
I have not seen “lilya 4-ever”, but I heard it is a brutal, sad film about suffering and prostitution, rape, abuse, and more horrible things. I also heard it’s about an impossible escape from reality. So…here is this one.
Again, have not seen THE RULES OF ATTRACTION- this one was lots of fun to do.
Also, I became jealous today when one of my friends saw LET THE RIGHT ONE IN. I heard it’s good.
Stephen King! …actually, I’ve never read anything of his…. :(
I like that challenge.
So here’s THE GIRL WHO LOVED TOM GORDON. Again, it’s kinda hard to assume what’s it about since I’ve not read it.
Also, Michel Gondry could totally make a scary movie. Totally.

I guess I’m just shooting these off now, because it’s fun. But I still think the Koch Lorber dvd makes me cry many many tears.

Then again…I really like La Strada.
For a contrast, Orchestra Rehearsal is spectacularly strange. Like Kafka’s musical.

your mentioning of UCHO has made me make a cover for a film that I have never seen:
I hope it’s not too far off tone.

I like this film a lot. I think it is kind of underrated…is it? I’m not sure, but I find it to be like a phantasmagoria.

Some more time to spend———→ on METROPOLIS! This is sort of my “take movie poster” idea. I actually like the posters done for the film a lot!
Make sure you see it with the original orchestral score. It’s amazing.

I still think the cover for ALPHAVILLE sucks. ….okay, so that’s a bold claim, but I, on one hand, DO judge a book by its cover!
….or not. :(
