Hi, Thursday. It's good to hear from you, but I understand that people have lives offline and can't always get back to each other promptly. Glad to hear that you're off to a good start at college. Which school are you attending and what are you planning to study? I admire you seeing all those very long films. My powers of concentration are not what they used to be, so I tend to avoid the lonnggg ones, though I did like the longer version of Margaret and Ruiz's Mysteries of Lisbon. Also glad that you seem to have adjusted to the fact that on a site like this dealing as it does with such a vast subject as more than a century of movies from everywhere on earth, no one is really an expert (though there are poseurs), and yet everyone is an expert. I understand your drawing away for a time from the topic of disability. I don't know what your disability is, but I am sure that you don't wish to be defined by it. //// Last week, I was driving my daughter Sally back east after a year spent in Peoria IL when we heard the news from Newtown CT, a town about fifteen minutes from where I live. These tainted and depraved people always seem to be trying to "top" their predecessors. When I was in San Diego in the eighties, people were still talking about Brenda Spencer, a sixteen-year old who in 1962 opened fire on Grover Cleveland Elementary School across the street from her house. The fact that she killed two and wounded eight was more horrible then than it would be today. The reason she gave was, "I hate Mondays". //// On the bright side, Sally who inherited the cinephile genes from her mother and me, will be living about five minutes from me for almost a year. I missed her terribly when she lived in Santa Fe and Peoria, and she is one of the best persons to see films with. //// Missing San Diego as winter closes in on us. I'll never forget walking along the beach on Christmas day! //// Stay well, dear friend. Bob
