Obayashi deserves more attention for his non-House films. I don't know how much input he had on the script on this one, which is pretty weird and fairly nonsensical, but the visual flourishes, especially in the pivotal scene, are something I don't think any other director could dream up.
Blatant Rocky IV rip-off
A beautiful film visually and aurally. Technically speaking, this is a film making master class. However, the plot doesn't really progress throughout and it gets a little repetitive after a while. It would have been nice if it had gone into some other aspects of revolution/rebellion rather than replaying the 'proletariats surrounded by oppressors' scenario over and over.
The film does a good job at bringing social issues in The Philippines to our attention but in successfully doing so, it harms the film as a piece of art. Plots are contrived to bring up different issues or to provoke an emotional response. Characters are introduced simply for them to be killed off and serve no other purpose but the tragedy of their death. etc. Even so, it was powerful and engaging at times. 3*
A fine array of flamboyant men's shirts on display in this film.
The soundtrack is wonderful. But apart from that..
Not as bad as I thought it would be. Nice light tone throughout with lots of humour and the usual explosive action scenes. Quite a lot of dialogue for a superhero film. Overall, good fun, certainly not a Spiderman 3 / X-men 3 disaster which I half-expected.
Plus Attenborough is misspelled AND Gandhi is already on here! Whats going on Trevor? http://www.theauteurs.com/films/2293
My favourite Keaton short.
I LOVE that Riki-Oh currently has the same score as Citizen Kane and 2001. Deserves it. :D
Quick, hand me the shark-repellent Batspray!

and so on.
Some days you just can't get rid of a bomb.
Gosh, Batman. The nobility of the almost-human porpoise.
5 hours well spent.
Anyway, how's your sex life?
Moolaadé picture?
I don't think children from this kind of broken background would really be so adorable, or so accepting of their situation for such a long time. Surely they would try to do SOMETHING? Their morals are so strong to stop them from stealing, even when they are in such dire need? I think the actions of a lot (all?) of the characters are a bit unrealistic. Someone would report this! Their friend at least? The landlord?
What a wonderful, beautiful mess this film is! Four stars.
This was my favourite of my VHS videos as a kid. It was double-billed with Popeye meets Ali Baba which was pretty awesome too. :)
Funny and affecting, Ray once again proves his great understanding of people and society. A very enjoyable watch, I really hope I will be able to watch that third part one day.
Oh, hi masterpiece
funny that theres two "rambo"s with two different pictures, but sly is pulling the exact same gurn in each. :)
Probably the most torturously boring film I have ever had the displeasure to sit through. Terrible.
Conspirators of Pleasure needs to be added!
