- What happened to your nose, Gittes? Somebody slammed a bedroom window on it? - Nope. Your wife got excited. She crossed her legs a little too quick. You understand what I mean, pal?
"I think people should mate for life, like pigeons or Catholics."
- "I beg pardon..." - "I beg pardon?" What are you so polite about? " - "For the same reason you are not: it's the way I was brought up. "
"It's not so much staying alive, it's staying human that's important."
"Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards."

"Like the fella says, in Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock."
I did not notice when I saw it but it is most likely a remake of this one, is not it? http://mubi.com/films/34226
Fascinating, so beautiful!
I watched this movie dozens of times when I was about 10, I was obsessed by this terrible story which happened to Roger Thornhill / George Kaplan. I haven't watched it since then (about 12 years) and it is the same obsession that touched me once again, Cary Grant is wonderful and as always Hitchcock makes every single plan become a decisive moment. Each view of this film is a new and fascinating moment
Not only it looks amazing but it IS truly amazing! I had the great opportunity to attend the premiere in Cannes and the whole audience enjoyed it! It is scary, funny, very well shot and you are entertained every single minute. I am not a fan of genre films but this one is really great!
A great cinematography highlights this poetic story
