About Me

Lorsque reviendra le temps des cerises
Et beau rossignol et merle moqueur
Seront tous en fête.
Les belles auront la folie en tête
et les amoureux le soleil au coeur.
Lorsque reviendra le temps des cerises
Chantera bien mieux le merle moqueur.

I'll mention Shelley :) Porcile is the one feature i've not seen, i did think of Gospel at a stretch, but i hadn't really thought of Pasolini, Leone (tho "baroque") and Fellini as romantics.

Hey, you owe me! You distracted me with that question this morning when I should have been voting... and by the time I got back the round was over. Grrr. How about a 2 for the birds or the Teorema this time round, heh? Heh?

Someone was suggesting Pasolini, among other Italians, for my Romanticism list: what do you think, and which films?

Interesting question. My gut says no; but, very much as with 'Pierrot le fou' (which makes an appearance in one of Pasolini's poems, for, well, very much this reason), it's an uncertain No because not only are 'parts of the package' there, but their attraction is immense, and recognised. The difficulties, too, because they have to be balanced against real politics. If you did, and you probably could, you could try 'Vangelo' - you've got an obvious screen-cap in that stormy moment in the Sermon on the Mount. Or maybe the more rarely quoted 'Porcile', particularly the Clementi character (the contemporary one, Julien, arguably just can't live up to its grandeur :D; it's a bourgeois movement and he's a sad little bourgeois sack, and if he has a way to the sublime which avoids play-acting it's through the horribly ridiculous. Yes, more I think about it, more I'd go for 'Porcile'.) But as a payback for a long answer, can I request that in your introductory name-dropping you mention Shelley as well as Byron? Is there a word-limit on wall-posts?

Thanks Ali for alerting me to this!! Ha ha I meant A Canterbury Tale by Powell and Pressburger not Pasolini's film. Still that film is ok, but I don't think it is even on the list. I was trying to vote up a Great British film as the list there are not enough on here!! I hope my vote counts!!

The Shanghai Gesture
