RUSSIAN GUILD OF FILM CRITICS BEST RUSSIAN FILMS PT 1 1908-1957 over 2 years ago

Thank you Kevin, it’s very interesting.

From my work with They Shoot Pictures I know 3 old surveys with slightly different results (they include Earth). Khutsiev’s number 8 is the biggest surprise here.

I’m glad to see Raizman’s Mashenka (Masha, number 10), a lovely little jewel with a fabulous lead actress. I liked it so much that I translated the English subtitles into Spanish (which is my language).

RUSSIAN GUILD OF FILM CRITICS BEST RUSSIAN FILMS PT 1 1908-1957 over 2 years ago

Earth and Man With a Movie Camera make the list in similar surveys about Soviet films. Iosseliani’s There Once Was a Singing Blackbird also would make the list in part 2.

I believe number 25 is Kozintsev’s Yunost Maksima, not Donskoy.

Russian Guild of Film Critics Best Russian Films pt 2 1958-2000 over 2 years ago

Perhaps someone may believe it is a mistake, however it is true. Russian critics always lists numbers 1,2,3 and 4 (in different orders) and Mikhalkov or Khutsiev’s movies next. Stalker, Come and See and many others Western favourites are less acclaimed…

It does not appear in Argentinean top lists either. You know, Leonardo Favio is the local hero.
