I can't recommend this film. It's visually striking, but overall I felt that that was the only thing going for it. If he wasn't zooming out to show a beautiful countryside, Kuberick cut to an intimate candle lit indoor scene. A movie to show off a camera, that's it. Otherwise, it's a substandard satire of pre Victorian manners. Kubrick deliberately made this movie uninteresting.
