Jye Sherwell: Filmography

Westworld

A lot of this film's enjoyment comes from wishing you got to actually experience something like Westworld (before it's malfunctions of course). Some tense moments, good enough cast, interesting music, and in general a fun film.

Winter's Bone

I actually didn't find this to be a depressing film. Scorsese's "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore", now that's a depressing film.

Twixt

I wish this film would get a freaking release date! I had to watch "Tetro" online due to the same thing. I'd rather go to the cinema or rent the DVD.

We Bought a Zoo

During a time when I haven't felt like watching many films, it's given me that inspiration that is one of the reasons I DO love the movies.

The Avengers

Whedon knows how to shoot action, the characters all get enough time and all feel useful, plus we actually get plenty of their down time to see that they're emotional, so we can care about what's going on. It's funny, it's cool, it's a great time at the cinema.

Submarine

Funny, quirky, creative, great writing, likeable lead, good songs by Alex Turner, superb cinematography... I very much enjoyed it.

Haha! So stoked Mubi actually used the pic I suggested. Feel free to all thank me.

The Hunger Games

The source material is great, and some of that translates on screen, but a lot of the tension from the book is lost, and the biggest problem with this film, is that it's got HORRIBLE camerawork. In fact some of it is nearly un-watchable. On the bright side, the cast is great!

The cast was great! The plot was amazing but the film didn't worked at some point. Sadly, in the film industry are more important things like money!! This film shoudn´t be PG12. The director handles very well the emotions but can´t apply action to the movie. The film was great until it comes to the arena (and this is a soft one... let me tell u) the suspense and the terror of being alone in it and being unaware of what was happening at the time... the doubts... bah. All these was essential to the movie...

Warrior

Certainly more a drama than a fighting movie. Which is certainly not a problem. Part of me wants more closure on some of the issues in this, but ultimately it's a solid film, and one that had me sobbing in my seat during the finale scene. More enjoyable than the previous years "The Fighter" too.

Anyone know where I can see this?

Wow, mubi really works fast when you give them a photo to work with. Thanks so much, guys!

Albert Nobbs

I didn't enjoy this as much as I expected to. Close is very good though. While I enjoyed looking at Aaron Johnson's body, for the first time I didn't enjoy one of his characters. He was an ass hole with bad teeth. But he's not the whole film. There's still a lot to enjoy here, but ultimately *SPOILER ALERT* the tragic ending fell flat with me. Still when I think back, there's some nice stuff in the earlier scenes.

Her and Fassbender are two of THE actors at the moment. Feels like she's getting all the roles.

In the video mubi has for this, at 52 and 53 seconds, what film is that from? The shot looks incredible. HELP!

oh, that's the film that PTA mentioned in his Boogie Nights commentary as inspiration for tracking shots in BN. VERY interested in seeing it.

I watched this, and Infamous, and I realize now that I really don't care for this story. Neither are good films.

Hanna

Unfortunate that it has pacing issues. I wish they'd taken it a bit more in the "trashy action movie" direction, because it could have been great then. Still has some great elements though. Like one of the best scores of 2011, nice cinematography (Wright's films tend to have that), and a strong lead. Plus the title card is great!

Easy A

Good script with plenty of laughs, and the cast is great, including the great Emma Stone who nails this role (pun intended).

Easy A

I didn't like this much at all. However it was worth sitting through, just so I could see that ending.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers

Got to watch this in a cinema tonight. Such a great experience; I've never liked the film more.

Mission: Impossible

Well I really like the first 30-45 minutes... somewhere around there. Also, when Ethan Hunt first goes out onto the train-top, it fully reminded me of "North by Northwest". Not story-wise, just the environment and I suppose that superimposed look.

Aside from some unlikely plot events and an opening score I didn't care for, the rest of the movie was mostly great. Well paced, well acted, and made me ball my eyes out. Lets hope Jones keeps this streak up.

Meetin' WA

Hearing what Allen has to say is great, but Godard keeps interrupting things with pointless photographs, and noises that drain out part of the conversation. So watch it if you want to hear some interesting things from Allen, and if you want to have a negative strike against Godard (not his first from me).
