Polaris: I love the Fountain, one of my top 5 for sure. However, I have to drastically disagree with you on Southland Tales, and add it too the list of great box-office flops on this thread along with Speed Racer, Assassination, The New World, and so many more of course
Forgettable is the last word I would use to describe it, The Road stuck with me for weeks after seeing it. The cinematography was gorgeous and Viggo’s performance was insanely good and filled soo much emotion.
Also I don’t understand the awkward scoring complaints, While Nick Cave’s score doesn’t quite match the one he did for Jesse James (one of my favorite film scores ever), it was still far better than most.
Visions of Light really is incredible, great way to find out about some movies with great cinematography you might not of seen as well, I instantly watched The Conformist after seeing it and am extremely glad I did.
Apologies to the Queen Mary – Wolf Parade
Random Spirit Lover – Sunset Rubdown
The Pains of Being Pure at Heart
Funeral – Arcade Fire
Take off your Pants and Jacket – Blink 182 (that’s right)
Vivian Girls
Lesser matters – The Radio Dept.
I’m sure theres some I’m forgetting but that’s what’s coming to mind as of now
While I’ll agree Soderbergh is hit or miss, if I was going to put only one of his movies in my top 50 of the decade it would definitely be Solaris.
In general I was really impressed with your list, although I can’t say it doesn’t confuse me that Harold and Kumar made the top 50, while Eternal Sunshine, Triplets of Bellville and Let Right One only almost did. But hey, everyone has their guilty pleasures.
Lost in Translation – Que “Just Like Honey” as the cab drives away
Revanche – Chopping Wood
Dogtooth – Hold on the trunk of the car
The Thing (Carpenters) – Wait there looking at each other
Children of Men – The sound of the playground
4 Months 3 Weeks 2 Days – “We’re never gonna talk about this again”
I have to second 6000 on Stephin Merritt being the ultimate champion of song lyrics.
My favorite line of his is from 10,000 Fireflies:
“You won’t be happy with me, but give me one more chance. You won’t be happy anyway.”
Also the chorus of Born on a Train is incredible:
I’ve been making promises I know I’ll never keep
one of these days I’m gonna leave you in your sleep
I have to go when the whistle blows, the whistle knows my name
baby, I was born on a train
There are so many amazing films I absolutely love right now, and have for a long time. But one film that I know I will love forever and wouldn’t even have to think twice about marrying… – Home Alone.
I don’t care if its due to nostalgia, I’m standing by it.

Any films you love so much, you can't even discuss it with people that didn't like it? over 2 years ago
While I can stand people not liking it, people that haven’t seen Star Wars I can not deal with.
Although one of my friends hasn’t seen any of them….I can’t deal with it.
