The thing that really bothered me about this movie was the fake accent. Otherwise this movie was very good. "Everybody is somebody else's fool". Lots of great quotes in the movie. The pace is fast enough to keep things from bogging down and letting you think too much. You never know who to trust or what will happen next. I did predict the end in the beginning but the movie was good enough to make me doubt myself.
As Dale Carnegie once said: “When fate hands us a lemon, let's try to make a lemonade”. One of the better feel good movies out there. Zorba is the kind of Uncle or Grandfather every one would benefit having in there life and non other then Anthony Quinn to play that character.
This movie by itself can be entertaining but there is definitely a double entendre aspect in regards to current trends of tolerance and open-mindedness. It is a progressive thinking film that has a specific target group in mind but can be applied to just about any group that sees itself as oppressed. Strangely political for being a comic but not nearly as disturbing or paradoxical as Alan Moore's Watchmen.
Amusing to say the least. I can't help to think there is a parallel between the young man, the older man, and the seaman with the broken bottle. (Not realizing that you have gone too far before it is too late). "Pride comes before the fall." Beautifully filmed. It also brings to memory the movie "Dead Calm". Not in its story so much as the scenes and similar situations to an extent.
