About Me

I’m thinking about using the term “movie” just to piss some people off. Wouldn’t that be hilarity?

I’m a fresh mind, and acknowledging I haven’t lived even two decades, I consider myself a last-resorting critic and one whose opinion cannot be supported via quotations from every film of every one of the masters. But I am slowly getting there, beginning with 2011 and working my way backwards. I don’t know how this method will pan out once 2012 arrives, but I will kill that whore when I get to it.

Edit: It is now 2012 and the whore is still running rampant.

I will admit that it was a spectacle to behold, from the saturation to the technology to the huge rat to Paul Giamatti saving everything, but its criticism of modernity was shallow at best. Without anything that kept it consistently interesting, the dialogue, acting, and pace were awkward and uncomfortable to watch. And no, this is not another case of Cronenberg's classic detached acting style, Pattinson just sucks.

I wonder if I would feel the way you do way if I saw _Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below_ before _5 centimeters per second_; as it is, I feel almost completely opposite. I'm curious, for example, where do you see melodrama? And though the movie is not subtle, I don't feel it can be called shallow. As for the emptiness, to an extent I can see this criticism, but I felt it was appropriate as it mirrors the character's withdrawal from others (it felt very real to me, but I can understand how this approach might be annoying or unappealing or merely boring in the same way that angst ridden "why me" characters can be all of the above even though they, too, are representative of reality. Still, I can not disagree about the visuals.
