A few knee-slappingly hilarious moments and a whole lot of overzealous shock value that feels lazy and witless in comparison to Borat and Bruno.
This is just so great. Taps into a visceral comtempt of Western society that I must admit I can relate to from time to time.
Tim Curry is an absolute treasure.
Due to a narrative that felt glossed over in parts I found myself caring more about the source of the characters' powers than the characters themselves. Loses itself in the spectacle and forgets the underlying tragedy of the main character's troubled home life. Struggled to sympathise with Andrew whose abrupt transformation into a self-proclaimed "Apex Predator" lacked exploration. Traumatized or power drunk?
"It's amazing what a man will go through for a hot pastrami sandwich." Jessica Walter's character is indeed a creepy and captivating force to be reckoned with.
This scandalously entertaining one and a half hours worth of blood-smut murder porn is somehow more Grindhouse than the films for which it was originally a trailer.
Should be seen for Ashley Bell's performance alone. Was an impressive take on the mockumentary horror subgenre (particularly the scene in which the antagonist briefly commandeers the documentary team's camera) until the ridiculously overzealous ending.
Arguably the best animated sequel since Toy Story 2. Perhaps better. Minus the completely unnecessary "HEY LOOK, WE'RE MAKING ANOTHER ONE" third sequel hint at the very end. Beautiful stuff.
The most hilarious musical I've ever seen.
Pop fuzz. Two stars simply for Cher.
I adored this film. I love the concept of throwing all these brash, modern day colloquialisms and behaviour into a medieval setting. A hilarious farce.
This was hilariously bad. I found myself laughing raucously during incredibly serious moments due to the embarrassing barrage of cliches. Save your money and imagine Zack Snyder jerking off from a plane onto a field of giant lingerie clad fire-breathing robo-dinosaurs in slow motion. The soundtrack is decent on its own, but due to its clumsy execution, it fails miserably within the film.
I'm not entirely sure what age group this film was aiming for, nor what it was trying to "be" - at times it felt like a gamut of poorly conceived homages strung together. For the most part, beautiful to look at though and undoubtedly had some downright hilarious moments. Minus Isla Fisher's terrible Southern accent...although I still couldn't help being charmed by her character.
WHY Gondry WHY
I wish this was better. The concept is fantastic.
An exercise in visual hysterics, this film leaves you with the sticky sensation of just having had your eyes raped with an 18th century musket dipped in pop culture.
Trash. And not the good kind.
Falls short of the grandiose depictments of filth and depravity so beautifully orchestrated in Waters' earlier trash films. An unsuccessful attempt by Waters to resurrect the blissfully psychotic nature of his 70's cult hits such as "Pink Flamingos". Although I did appreciate the nostalgia present in its classic bad taste humour and got laughs aplenty out of it regardless.
Boring, preachy and contrived. It felt like Greengrass was using every opportunity he got to throw the corruption of the Bush administration in the audience's face. A degree of subtlety wouldn't have gone astray.
Beautiful to look at, but ultimately fails to impress. Only worth watching for Helena Bonham Carter...and Anne Hathaway's strange ballet-walking.
Absolutely hilarious. I could not stop laughing the entire way through this brilliantly witty political satire.
A decent effort by a pair of ambitious young directors, but still far from a great film. The dialogue had me cringing in parts, and the ending was abrupt and nonsensical. "We have a cure to save the world". Okay, great. So how exactly are you going to set everyone on the planet on fire and then put them out again? An interesting concept somewhat bungled.
Immersive. Disturbing. Surreal. Beautiful. A complete and utter wonder to behold, Lynch really creates visual poetry with Inland Empire. Certainly one of his best to date.
Raped my tearducts for the first twenty minutes, and at regular periods thereafter. Thoroughly heartwarming, funny and beautiful.
A lot funnier than I thought it would be. Very cute stuff.
Some of the most elaborate cinematography I've seen in a while. Cuaron's penchant for long takes is clearly evident in this film. One of the shots towards the end of the film will always stand out for me, lasting over seven minutes without cutting. Jaw dropping.
Possibly the best film about filmmaking ever made.
Laughable. For not one second of this film's generously lengthy running time did I feel that it was anything other than a shameless grab for cash. Indiana Jones and The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull is a film franchise zombie that should have stayed dead. And Spielberg, Inter-dimensional aliens? For lack of anything else coming to my mind I say fuck you, sir.
Disturbingly bizarre, Luis Bunuel's short surrealist masterpiece is better understood when not attempting to at all. This inspired me like nothing else ever has.
Robin Williams once again proves himself to be an incredibly talented and flexible actor. He truly becomes one with the role of Sy, and as a result expertly draws the viewer into the film's eerie atmosphere.
