Aconteceu o mesmo comigo. Acho que não se tem mesmo escolha. Encontrei o livro recentemente <3 e acho que vai ser igual, enquanto não lhe vir o fim não descanso.
Catarina, I'm pleased that you rated Primo Amore 4 stars. The restaurant scene was pretty amazing. By the way, has anyone mentioned to you lately that you are looking a little heavy? ;-)
No! Thank you for noticing! :D Really, after what I've seen I don't think I will be taking that as less of a compliment. Besides, I find the curves enticing on a woman. I'm guessing you second that.
Indeed! And I'm very relieved that you understood the implied humor in my comment. Michela Cescon's devotion to her role was right up there with DeNiro in Raging Bull and Bale in The Machinist. Also, I found the many visual references to his twisted ideal of feminine form, including the shape of their new home, to be brilliantly conceived and are almost certainly an indictment of the unrealistic body image that has been created for woman by the fashion industry by its use of impossibly thin and waif-like models. Another scene that was especially chilling to me was when he returned to the shop where he'd purchased the scale to have its calibration checked. Subtle, but truly frightening...
Yes I really liked that shop scene as well. I find the caracter of Vitalino fascinating. It's an interesting conflict that moves him. Actually I think we are all moved by it, even if we are not so extreme to the point of trying to shape our partner. There's a commitment in its actions of someone who's tired to look for something unreachable. It's funny you should mention the house because that exact thought reached me at some point. You can work the wood and the gold but not a person. Oh and let's not forget the scene when Michela is confronted with the student's paintings of her.
Catarina, have you seen Matteo Garrone's "Primo Amore". If not, I have a feeling you might find the tragic heroine fascinating...
I also was underwhelmed by Margaret. Kind of amazed at the level of praise the film has attracted.
Totally. I kept thinking, "so much praise for this?" and the acting wasn't even very good. At least this fiasco has established once more a very missed exchange of thoughts between us. What have you been up to lately? I saw Hearts of Glass the other day and thought you would like it. Was even going to post that on your page but I've been quite off these days...
Hello, Catarina! I'm well thanks, and I hope this finds you the same. As you've noted, I'm a Herzog fan, though I've yet to see Heart of Glass. I'm grateful for the recommendation and will seek it out. All the best to you! Have you seen Beasts of the Southern Wild? An austere film with a lot of heart and a 7-year old heroine that will drop your jaw...
I've yet to see that one but I'm not feeling it yet, you know? I must find myself at a certain mood for the academy winners and I reckon some of them I wont even try to watch. (Don't you find despicable to hand an oscar to Lawrence instead of Riva?) But if you say it is worth it, I'll give it a go :) I'm to watch tiny furniture soon too. Have been kinda devoted to books lately...
Oh, Catarina. I will refund your rental fee if you don't find Beasts charming. We cineastes here in the US were astonished to find Beasts nominated. Not because it isn't an excellent film, but because it isa small, independent debut feature from an unknown director that captured something special and really has no business being considered among the commercial films that are most often considered for nomination. We knew it had no chance of winning, but it is heartening that such a personal and artistic film would at least be considered!
God, now I will really watch it without delay. Yes, you are right about the nomination. I also felt a warmth when they nominated searching for sugar man. Little projects may be coming more to the awareness of the judges but still I'm always bothered when I watch the globes. I have to hold on my grudge on commercial cinema a little. After all, bad movies pay the good ones.
This is the only movie I’ve ever rated 5 stars. The reason is quite self-centered: it’s the movie I wish I had came up with. It’s choking and controversial, just my type of story. There’s no middle… read review
